19 New Civilization Revolution Screenshots

Wait a second, it's coming out in Q1 2008? In my opinion, that's way too early for a project of this scale that only begun, what, 4 months ago?

It is prob much easier to program a game for a console. Think about it every machine that will use the game will have EXACTLY the same hardware with EXACTLY the same performance. With PC's they have to take in account everyone that has older hardware.

They are releasing this for next-gen gaming consoles, yes? So why aren't they taking advantage of the enormous graphics processing capabilities of the PS3?

Because the PS3 is very powerful as a super-computer, but as a games console it has around about the same abilities as the 360, maybe only a bit more. Besides, the graphics look just fine, just way too cartoony.

The game was in development long before the announcment, after all, a week after announcing it they were showing screenshots already. It's common practice to work on a game for a while and only announce it when you're absolutely sure that you can get it working and have a timetable for release. Nobody wants to end up in a Duke Nukem Forever type situation.

LOL remember when Bush kept referring to Africa as a single nation?
This is so totally American bad geography :p
But more importantly I think it is a good idea because I think people who play computer-online civ are really good and it is no fun trying to play Civ 4 online in my opinion
So a better online-oriented version of this game sounds fine, mmmmm'kkk????

I think it's safe to say they are recycling chunks of civ4 code, not starting from scratch.

And as already posted, console games don't take as long to develop.

What will be interesting is how well they debug it. Once they go gold, they won't be able to patch it, so I hope that they leave enough time for testing. Even dumbed down this is going to be a lot more complex than your typical console strategy game. As the owner of a Wii I'm almost glad that it is coming out 6 months later because of this (though I (my son) is actually a lot more likely to play the DS version if it's good enough, due to form factore. My son is 10 and though he plays civ he's not really able to figure out infrastructure mgmt, but on the DS his favorite game is Advance Wars Dual Strike)

What I don't get after looking at all the screenshots is ... is there a zoom out view of your entire empire? Everything looks like a close up view of just one city. Is there even any concept of a global view & movement in this game, if so why isn't an example shown?

Why can't they say Shaka of the Zulus? WHY do they have to be so generic? Seriously, I thought Sitting Bull of the Native Americans was bad, but Shaka of the Africans is just ridiculous. What I liked about Civilization is that it taught me so much about history, but this is like a brick to the head. Console or PC, Firaxis should never stoop this low for stereotypes and cliches.
