Civ game: CivVII
(Long answer: Yes, I know that's a trollish reply. I started with Civ at Civ2 and played each iteration since. I probably put the most time in CivV, but do really appreciate a lot of CivVI).
Music: Bowie
(Long answer: it really depends on the mood you get me in. The Pogues are an old favorite, as are the Cambodian Space Project, the Mountain Goats, Massive Attack).
Food: ส้มตำ ข้าวเหนียว ปลาเผา [papaya salad, sticky rice, grilled fish]
(Long answer: nope, no long answer. That's it.)
Book or film rec: My favorite book these days is James Siegel's Naming the Witch, but that's academia (I also enjoyed Sophie Chao's In the Shadow of the Palms recently). Novel-wise, Susanna Clarke's Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell is just fantastic. Film, I love Wong Kar-Wai's stuff a lot, but if I have to recommend something I might point to Apichatpong's Uncle Boonmee or Cemetery of Splendour.
It's Thai street food. The fish is usually snakehead fish or sea bass stuffed with lemongrass and encrusted with salt grilled outdoors on a charcoal grill and served with a chili-lime-garlic-fish sauce dip. Papaya salad is often insanely hot, mashed with chili peppers, lime, garlic, and lots of green papayas (there are countless variations in this).

Well well well i'd like to see Great Campaign between Siam and Dai Viet ... King Rama III VS Emperor Min Mang
Lots of gunny actions. and war elephants.
I understand that the Civilization franchise consists of games where you simulate wars, and that playing these video games probably isn't the best use of time if your goal is infinite life. Nevertheless, we have spent 400 hours in Civ 5 and 800 hours in Civ 6... and for some reason, I still want to check out the new game.
Mostly what I was pointing out was that, while Civ may allow you to simulate war, to call it a war sim is reductive as there are many other aspects to the game, nor is going to war necessary to play the game well or enjoy it.

I'm not trying to argue; in fact, you're making an excellent point. I would add that without the presence of war, these games would be more historically inaccurate.

The Civilization series does kind of explicitly have its roots in wargames, and every iteration since has arguably been a conscious, gradual departure from said roots
