Yeah I decided to actually try CivII a few days ago so I loaded it up, started a game on Emperor (which is what I play on CivIII) as the Americans and played it. I got my butt kicked and I basically had no clue what I was doing with some things (especially with the tech tree and those caravan and diplomat things); I finally figured out how to initiate diplomacy myself (rather than the AIs contact you) near the end of the game so I guess I missed out on alot there. I was also wondering why you couldn't mine grassland, I guess you just can't. The biggest thing that I couldn't deal with well was the unit support thing. How do you build a big army and still be able to produce in your cities? I guess what I'm asking is is there some article or something that points out all of the differences between CivII and CivIII? (Maybe that's too much to ask...)

When in doubt, read the manual! The basic stuff that, dips/spies and caravans/freight, can do is laid out there. Than check the Index link at the top of this forum.

There are some old threads from around the original release date of Civ3 that point out differences between the games (there are many), mostly in the direction of adjusting from CivII to Civ3. More recently, there have been several "why I'm going back to CivII" threads that have more opinionated expressions of significant differences, particularly in simplicity, long-term planning and gameplay. The CivII Manual is a decent starting point, but it really assumes almost no knowledge of how Civ is played to begin with. There is a Great Library out at Apolyton.Net that summarizes accumulated knowledge on many CivII topics, and the War Academy here at CFC also walks you through more basic intro stuff.
