Right then, this seems like the best place to get a few answers, so I'll crack on.

1) Imagine the scene... I've destroyed all but the Capital city of the English, and my armies now march upon London. The get there, destroy it, and the English are no more. Then, a bit later, there they are! On the other side of the world. Why did they respawn? Can I do anything about it? Basically it means I can surround the capital with hundreds of troops, and the English have no need to worry, as they magically reappear time and time again.

2) I've had to edit all the A/D/M stats for my game. Do you people really play with the stats that allow a Pikeman to kill a Tank, or a Spearman to hold off an entire medieval army on his own?

3) I select 'Pangaea' from the 'Map Type' menu, and still, occasionally end up on a island. If I'm not, someone else is. Does this happen to everyone?

4) Is there anyway I can reduce the maximum number of Cities a Civ can build? Waiting 5 minutes for a turn get very boring, very quickly.

5) I've got more money than anyone else, a bigger military, the 4 or 5 biggest cities, everyone is in awe of my culture, etc. If I get bored a pull the plug on my game to get a score, I'm always remembered as 'Elizabeth the Unworthy'. Is the final score based on how many cities you have? (5-6 New York style cities Vs. 58 hamlets shouldn't result in a victory for the opposition)

6) Is there anyway to edit the captions for the opposing Civ leaders when they are speaking to you? It's looks rather silly when the say 'Give me the Technology or I'll wipe your puny civilization off the face of the earth!' and in the caption it says 'Polite'. How can you politely threaten to burn some ones village down?

7) I'm fighting the English (again) I kill the troops defending York and I get the option of raising it or taking it for myself. I take it. A few turns later, the Enligh recapture the city. Again, I kill the troops defending it, but this time, I get no option of capturing it, I just get told that it's been destroyed and I've got X ammount of gold. Why is this?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers.

Vaul.

1. Any wiped out civ respawns. I'm not sure if there's an option to turn it off.
2. Well i really usually don't have that problem, but it does happen now and then especeialyl with pikemen and riflemen. I've seen a longbowman kill infantry(full health)
3. Thats happened to me sometimes too. I restart.
4. I too have that problem so i don't play on huge maps. There are some option that you can turn off, such as animate movement.
5. Its based on population and how many happy people and culture and military size.
6. Don't know.
7. Size 1 cities are autmatically razed. You can't take them over.

1. The computer is a BIG fan of sending settlers on ships and keeping the ships at sea indefinitely. It was probably one of these "lost" settlers that founded the new city. To the best of my knowledge, the computer does not "respawn" but it is allowed to keep any settlers and the ships carrying them.

If there's enough room on the continent and he has a settler unit on the field when you kill his last city, it'll show up quite a distance away. The trick is good recon early, killing the settler that runs off when you attack, and getting the cities, in one turn.

Size 1 cities with any culture at all, can be captured otherwise they're destroyed.

The spearman killing a tank, people whine about it much much more than it ever happens, at better skill levels, they'll have similiar tech/units, you'll rarely even see an outdated unit.

Your score, play at increased skill levels, manage to win by that wide a margin and your score will soar.

I don't play on huge maps, the lag between turns is too great, even on kick ass computers. I also hate the way any visable unit, wakes/fortifies every single turn, seems very inefficient and just adds to the lag.

I agree, the random map generator leaves a lot to be desired.

To speed up your opponents turns, simply hold down shift. It speeds it up ALOT. And if you do this, its not that bad. I like my space and I always play on huge maps.

And Yes settlers in the world or on ships do survive. I think this is one one of the loopholes when playing on the gold standard.

I think holding down the shift key has the same effect as staring at your toaster when your making toast or the pot of water you're trying to boil.

:)

As long as the AI has a settler left somewhere, and can possibly settle somewhere, the civ survives (when down to 1 city, it usually builds a settler right away for emergency).

The shift key speeds up the AI's animations of units (and your movements too, really helpful for those 100 automated workers!)
But I just use the preferences and turn off all animations, except for enemy (so I know where my enemy is!)

If you want fewer cities, just play on smaller maps, fewer civs, or control the majority of the map!

To change the stuff that is said in diplomacy you would have to go to the your diplomacy.txt folder. But be careful what you change in there (best to save a copy of the original, before making changes, in case this causes crashes)
