2011 MLB Thread

heard on espn radio last week that when derek lowe got his dui that he was drag racing. really?! 37 year old guy racing his car? and when he's been drinking? that will be nice fodder for the folks down at the bank tonight :)

Lowe had a history as a party animal in Boston. Rumor had it after clinching a playoff spot in'03, him and fellow party-animal Kevin Millar (in full game uniform) led a group of fans reveling in the victory to a bar near Fenway Park, and he personally got behind the bar and started serving everyone drinks.

lemme see if I can find it....found it...

The spacious new digs (multiple levels, including a game-room basement) mean that more Sox fans can check out the Sox here than they ever could at the old location—which achieved local fame in 2003 when Sox players including Kevin Millar and Derek Lowe sprinted in (in full uniform) moments after clinching a playoff spot and proceeded to pour drinks for happy Sox fans.

So ESPN is abuzz about a possible Reyes to the Giants trade in the works. Sabean has unequivocally said NO, but it's looking like a bigger possibility every day, especially since a good Shortstop like Reyes is just the kind of thing we need, and with the Mets in the crapper financially, a trade would definitely benefit both sides. Thoughts?

Basically anything is an improvement over Miggy at this point. Reyes is a tad overrated but he would be a nice improvement at the top of the order.

Losing a revitalized Panda really hurts too. With a wrist injury no less; those can take multiple seasons to truly recover from, if recovery is even possible. (E.g. Nomar, Jed Lowrie)

Yes, losing Panda has really been hurting us. But it's not a wrist injury per se, rather it's a hand injury, and from what I've read, recovery seems to go rather well with it. I'm looking forward to him coming back in the the next few weeks. He was doing really well up till that point, man.

Cards Garcia throws his second complete game shut out of the season. Nice :) With Wainwright out people like Garcia will have to step up and so far he is doing just that (4-0 in 7 starts with a 1.99 ERA and 44 K's). :)

Amazingly it took him only 77 pitches to get into the 8th inning and he only ended up throwing 102 pitches during the entire game. Talk about efficient.

Bit of a strange game in Philly last night. Cliff Lee was mostly Dr. Jekyll and struck out 16 in 7 innings pitched. But he also had one strangely awful Mr. Hyde inning where he got tagged for 3 runs. Derek Lowe pitched no-hit ball for 6 innings, then gave up 2 hits and was pulled because of trouble with his right foot.

Phils offense was absent last night. But if you're a Phils fan, that's going to happen this year sometimes.

Man what a game last night! Great way to celebrate the birthday of a great man. Easily one of the top 5 of all time.

I hope if Cleveland makes the post-season, we get another bug attack like the last time.

That was classic!

Justin Verlander pitched a no-hitter yesterday, his second career no-hit game. He also hit 100 mph on the radar gun in the 9th inning.

No hitters being given out like candy these days.

Getting Utley's bat back in the lineup would be really nice. The combo of Valdez (OPS .579) and Orr (OPS .626) is a bit of a downgrade.
