It is a documented fact that Vancouver is the best city in the world.

Don't make me laugh

The New York Jets need a new stadium, and if New York gets the Olympics, a stadium is going to be built for them. And since all the other cities on the list don't even have one football team, let alone two, it should be New York :D

I'm tired of watching the JETS play in GIANTS stadium ;)

Wasn't San Francisco once on the list for 2012?

But if SF was eliminated, then probably Istanbul then.

i say paris, but i wouldnt mind New York, but like others have said if it is hosted there, be good losers. (i know this is winter olympics, but i am thinking of the time when the korean skater had his gold taken off him, and given to americans when he had done nothing at all to break the rules and had won fair and square)

I think it fair that a country that haven't had any olypic games before should get it.

I don't wan't the US to get it, US has had 8 olympic games. That's enough for 100 years to come... Nor I think France, Italy or Germany, England should get it again either.
-----------------------------------

United States 8
Japan 5
France 4
Italy 4
Germany 4
Greece 3
England 3
Australia 2
Canada 2
Switzerland 2
Norway 2
Austria 2
Sweden 1
Germany 1
Blegium 1
Netherlands 1
Finland 1
Mexico 1
Russia 1
South Korea 1
Spain 1
China 1
Yugoslavia 1

Including 2004 Athens, 2006 Turin & 2008 Beijing.

Can't belive USA still is in the competition every year... I mean, look at this list:

1904 St. Louis
1932 Los Angeles
1932 Lake Placid
1960 Squaw Valley
1980 Lake Placid
1984 Los Angeles
1996 Atlanta
2002 Salt Lake City

Haven't you had enough? How fun can it be to keep spending millions and billions of dollars every time?

They should hold it in Kyrgyzstan. It'd be funny to see how the anchors at the Olympics would try to say the names.

It has to be either Istanbul or New York. I've voted Istanbul. It's about time that the Turks got an international sporting tournement; it'd also be fitting that one of histories biggest and most important cities regains the opportunity to be the centre of world attention. New York's my second because of the city is quite clearly the greatest modern city (and probably sep 11 as well.)

If Madrid gets it I'll be sick. Barcelona got it in 1992. That would mean that the nation's record since would be:

Spain, USA, Australia, Greece, China, Spain. Spain isn't that important!

It isn't to do about importance, it is to do with producing the best games possible and I think most people would agree that Barcelona was a great Games. I've been to Barcelona and could see well how that city was condusive to making a memorable Olympics (maybe it was just the theme song ;) ) and that the Spanish had made a real effort.

I would agree that Istanbul would be far more interesting than New York, which I have difficulty in taking seriously as a great city as programs like NYPD Blue make it look rather grotty. I will plan to visit sometime soon as I hate to be ignorant and if it is the best city in the World "I" should be living there :D

Everyone in New York is raised to believe that they live in the center of the Universe/ greatest city in the world. Most of them believe this propaganda. There is no reasoning with these people so don't even try.

I would vote for Istanbul. As far as infrastructure goes, the per capita GDP of Turkey is higher than that of any European country before WWII (or Mexico in 1968) and IIRC those Olympics worked fine.

So are you trying to say New York isn't the financial capitol of the world :p

Any questions?

Big deal; so the people of Vancouver are on average the richest in the world. That doesn't mean Overall its the greatest city. Vancouver doesn't even compare to New York.

Vancouver is quite small. :p

Um, nowhere did that say that Vancouver has the richest citizens on average, it simply stated that Vancouver is officially the best city in the world to live in, IIRC, New York was something like 100th, around there. Simply put, you cannot dispute the fact that Vancouver is better.

It says best quality of livining; i.e. no homeless, not many poor people

Not best city

Yeah. Some group of people decided what was important, how it would be measured, and how much weight would be given. I'm amazed those people's conclusions are completely beyond dispute :p

I'd Say Madrid! Olé!!!

or any other country that has not been host of the games, US has been host several times its time to give a chance to other cities :)

A small point - the UK have only ever hosted the games (1908, 1948) when asked to by the IOC because no-one else wanted them - the games would have collapsed in 1948 if the UK had not put them on despite suffering major financial problems, austerity, rationing and damaged infrastructure.

The UK has NEVER been awarded the games when any other country has wanted them - perhaps 2012 wouldn't be too early to change that?

Vancouver has LOTS of tramps, LOTS!

Istanbul !

Havana is a no-no - it's bad enough that the 2008 games are in Beijing. And the coverage of the OG is Americanized enough that we don't need another event in the US, thank you :)
