I said Rome...

I would have said Paris or New York, but I think the whole Iraq episode just stains it for those two...both governments acted like little children during that event and I don`t think either country should be awarded the games. Havanna, impossible, they don`t have to facilities capability to host the games.

Come on... While I agree that both our govs acted like spoilt children, hopefully people in 2012 won't see the awarding of the games to Paris or NY in the light of the Iraqi war. It should not be a factor in the decision.

I don't really know if this is right, but I'm pretty sure I heard Moscow was bidding for the Olympics that year, but I'm not sure.

As for the cities given, I really don't think we should get the Olympics in NY simply because we have held so many Olympics in general, but I really don't care because I most likely won't be able to go to them simply because I'd be in transition from flight school to fighter school and they simply wouldn't let me go.

I say ... ban the US from the Olympic Games .... cause everybody (except the citizens of USA) knows that every US-athelte is using steriods anyway ....

The New York Jets need a new stadium, and if New York gets the Olympics, a stadium is going to be built for them. And since all the other cities on the list don't even have one football team, let alone two, it should be New York

This was one of the problems with the Atlanta Games. They turned the main Olympic Stadium into a baseball park. Historic world records were set on that track (Michael Johnson's 200 meters) and they couldn't remove it from the stadium fast enough. The local yokels in my hometown (Dallas, Texas) wanted to do the same damned thing with the Cotton Bowl in their 2012 bid. In my opinion, any U.S. town that wants the Games should bid to host the World Track & Field Championships first and be willing to leave the track & field features in place after the Olympics for future international competition. I guess that may narrow it down to Eugene, Oregon, but as has been pointed out, the U.S. has hosted enough of the games to have had its fill for a while.

My vote for 2012 would be Istanbul.

But are you going to fill a stadium of 80,000 with a Track and Field event every week after the Olympics is over? No. The owners of the stadium want to make money, so the stadium will house whatever can get them the most money

The Stadiums that are used in other countries do the same thing; except theirs are soccer (footbol) and ours are football (american) and baseball

These stadiums can be modified (i think) to house occasional track and field events anyway

And I assure you; If Instanbul gets the games and builds an 80,000 seat stadium, its not going to be strictly track and field

Given the success of Sydney in 2000 - I suggest that it be permantly appointed as the host of every summer games. Move the IOC from Lausanne to Sydney (the harbour is much better than their lake).

Every four years, the world can have a great street party in the best street party city in the world. The locals had an impromptu party for three days in 1993 when they won the right to host them in 2000. No one throws a party like Sydney.

Only because we have short memories. This is even more problematic for American viewers, as the IOC wont allow replays, which means people would have to watch at 3 in the morning.

My vote goes to Rome. It has been a while the Olympics were last held there (1960), and I think it would be great to have it in such a historical city as Rome.

I support Paris. Great city, great venues, and it's been a while (1924) since the last time it was held in France.

Edit: also, the WC 98 was a huge success and they are hosting this year's WC in Athletics, which may make their bid stronger if everything goes well.
