A good number of cities have sent or will send a bill for the 2016 Olympics. What city do you think is the best choice?

I think Istanbul has a shot of winning, having fallen short of a few votes for the 2000 and 2008 bids.

I also think Dubai can become the first middle eastern city to host it.

poll coming, all the cities were gotten off the Wikipedia 2016 Candidate bill.

Given that it's in Beijing (Asia) 2008 and London (Europe) 2012 and was recently in Athens (Europe), Sydney (Australasia) and Atlanta (North America) it would be nice in 2016 if it were in Africa or South America for a change.

Tokyo: Good option, though the problem can be that Tokyo is too big even without tourists watching Olympics.
Madrid: Good option, not too big city, not too small.
Prague: I'm not sure, maybe a good option. Is there a big enough venue for Olympics?
Chicago: Interesting option, maybe better than the biggest US cities because it's not too big.
Rio de Janeiro: Too bad gang wars in the slum areas IMO.
Nairobi: If logistics work and there is a big enough arena, why not?
Cape Town: What about the winter that is during Olympics in South Africa? Could cause problems.
Baku: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Doha: At least there would be hotels that the sportsmen could use. Money wouldn't be a problem.
Bangkok: Interesting option, though Thailand isn't among the biggest sports nations.
Dubai: Same as Doha.
Rome: I don't see any bad things in this, though Italy just had winter Olympics in Torino.
Hamburg: Why not?
Leipzig: IMO not as good option as Hamburg.
Lisbon: This is a good option too.
Istanbul: Not bad at all, safety may be the only issue.
Montreal: Great option IMO. Though Canada could fit better to winter Olympics.
Toronto: Same as above.
Monterrey: Why not, though I don't think it will qualify to final election.
Buenos Aires: This is a good option too.
Santiago: As is this.
One of the Australia Cities: Sydney just had them at 2000.
Korea/Japan: South Korea just got winter Olympics. Edit: Sochi got them... So now, why not?

I voted for Nairobi, could do good things to Africa if Olympics were held there.

i vote chicago, as it'd give me a nice excuse to fly back to the states at the time.

and if i'm still here, i could go easier.

Put it in a rich country. I'd go with Dubai.

1.) You spelled Chicago wrong.
2.) I hope its in Chicago since Chicago is the second best city in America and Philadelphia doesn't seem to care about international things.

Chicago would be cool...just five hours' drive from here...less from East Lansing.

Toronto is probably a better Canadian candidate, as it's larger and also hasn't already had the Olympics (Montreal had them in 1976...and they botched that massively).

Hmm...New York likely may not go for the 2016 Games after the defeat for the 2012 version. However, even with the enormous task ahead of them, given my New York patriotism, I'd likely support the bid, even if it has some reservations.

So if they can't stick it in Jerusalem, I think Chicago might make for a good fit. But it would be very interesting to see the Games in Doha or Dubai...so for this thread at this time, I'll vote Doha, Dubai, Chicago, and throw in Toronto as well.

Chicago is very excited to be the US representative. We learned some good lessons from NY's mistakes on their bidding for 2012.

Of course I'm biased and think that the lakefront and skyline views, our people, short distance between venues, the Olympic village, transportation and a mayor who is extremely determined. Russia getting the 2014 Olympics would seem to help this. Here's the video shown to the USOC.

Tokyo.

I got 10 m ing snakes

Sick of the Olympics going between W. Europe and Anglo-Saxon cities. I really hope Istanbul gets it. Failing that, Dubai, Prague or Moscow/St Petersburg (should the Russians put either forward).

I think we can eliminate Moscow/St. Petersburg, Rome and Toronto right off. All three countries had or will have the the Winter Olympics.

i say they should either build an island at 0,0 or have it at the cradle of civilization.

it'd be cool for symbolic reasons, but it won't happen. especially the first

Shows how much I follow the Olympic selection process nine years ahead of the Games if the USOC already selected a pick for 2016. But, Chicago 2016 and New York 2020 sounds like a very attractive duo.

I'd like to be able to attend the Olympics in some form if it does indeed come to Chicago in 2016. It'd be 40 years since my parents took their trip to the Montreal Games to see boxing and a few other events.

Chicago! C'mon, its my home state.

Montreal or Toronto. It is too hot anywhere else.

Oh come on America, you've had Los Angeles in 1984 and Atlanta in 1996 whilst there has never been an olympic games in South America or Africa! And same goes for us Europeans - we've had it pleanty of times and will do again in 2012 so lets give others the oppurtunity.

By the time this comes around there will have been one in SA.
