Ok, lets just talk about the summer olympics here - 1996 was the last time the US had it, and in 2016 and there would have been 4 more games since then. Given that there (give or take depending on points of view) 194 countires in this world, I don't see how the argument that the US should should be due again really holds.
Well, I agree with you, but we all know that this is not how the corrupted sport world works. It's all about money these days. Or why do you think Atlanta was hosting the games in '96 and not Athens? Americans can bribe better than say an African country.

Honestly though, I can't be bothered less. When I was a kid, the Games were a bliss for me and I would try and watch as much as possible, staying awake at night watching German athletes trying to win some gold medals. Doping and all the commercial hype have made my interest fade a lot. I can see Singapore's obsession to try and win a medal at the Games. It's really sick as they try and import anyone just win a medal for 'Singapore'. This includes mainly Chinese for table tennis, swimming and badminton and steroid enhanced track and field stuff.
Especially table tennis has morphed into international championship of China, it's really awful. Even Germany fielded a Chinese player :vomit:
Watch next years table tennis Olympics in Beijing, it will be China - China under most diverse flags. When spectators cheer China on, at least all of them would get motivated as Mandarin would be understood by every player....

Tokyo: Tokyo seemed prepared for an Olympics, plus it will allow the 3 billion or so people in Asia Pacific to watch the games without having to wake up at 2 in the morning but it already hosts the 1964 Olympics and I hate double-ups.
Madrid: good option (good facilities, etc), but I hate the idea of the Olympics going back to Europe in 2016.
Prague: I think the Czechs are ready to host an Olympic, but I'd like to see the next Olympic held outside of Europe
Chicago: perhaps the city most suited in terms of preparation, organisation.
Rio de Janeiro: could be an option (no Olympics ever held in South America iirc), but they need a big clean up.
Nairobi: I think they are far from ready to host an event of this sort.
Cape Town: see Nairobi
Baku: see Nairobi
Doha: Interesting option. Doha went well with the Asian Games. It's also perhaps the sporting capital of the Middle East. Also money's no object.
Bangkok: while I'd like to see this happen, I don't think they're quite ready.
Dubai: I think Dubai is quite capable of hosting the Olympics.
Rome: see Madrid
Hamburg: see Madrid
Leipzig: see Madrid
Lisbon: see Madrid
Istanbul: Good option, and this could be a once-in-century chance for Turkey to prove it's "worthy" to be integrated into the EU.
Montreal: should be given a chance to redeem itself...
Toronto: Another good choice.
Monterrey: see Madrid
Buenos Aires: see Bangkok
Santiago: see Bangkok
One of the Australia Cities: Preferably Melbourne. After all, it's the world's sporting capital... :mischief:
Korea/Japan: maybe. It'd be interesting if Pyongyang hosts it...

Of the ones on the list, I would support Toronto, Chicago, Madrid, and Tokyo. Would love to see someplace like Rio or Cape Town host it, but I doubt it will happen.

Doha: Interesting option. Doha went well with the Asian Games. It's also perhaps the sporting capital of the Middle East. Also money's no object.
IIRC the games were held in winter there. So, asking again, would we accept the Summer Olympics being held in Winter Time?

Would the athletics be willing to compete in 50 degrees celcius heat? I don't think so...

The games could be held in spring or autumn when the temperature is cooler. That's what happened with the Sydney games btw.

I voted Madrid, but two games in Europe in a row would be too much, so I change to Buenos Aires. I hope good winds will blow over there by 2016.

Chile, most likely. The Spanish Santiago is not big enough and I guess the Cuban isn't either. If It has to be in Cuba, I would go to La Habana.

Which Santiago is this? Chile? Cuba? Spain?

I'd support s bid for Rio de Janiero, when was the last time it was in South America? Probably never.

Never.

And I believe Santiago, Chile.

Here's the list of the modern Summer Olympic Games. Note that 2012 will be the third time that London hosts the Games.

Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro would be excellent places. I've always been fond of Brazil for some reason.

I think Toronto would be fantastic. They had an awesome bid put together for 2008, but for obvious reasons, Beijing couldn't lose that one.

TORONTO!

If toronto would win if we didnt have Vancouver, I would give that one up in a minute.

Aside from that, Africa/SA would be interesting, ME would be nice but so unlikely... Accra 2018, Vostok Station 2020, Bloemfontein 2022, Alert 2024, Yaren (Narau) 2026

I'd support Toronto (even though they would become even more insufferably smug than they already are!).

But one of the reasons I enjoy the Olympics is because it's a chance to see how things are in other countries. I love all the cultural features the CBC includes in its coverage. :)

Let's see... Spain had the Barcelona Olympics, and they did a marvelous job -- I still regard that as the best Summer Olympics I've ever seen. The best Winter Olympics, of course, was Calgary. :D

Simply because we don't get to hear much about Portugal, I'd support Lisbon. And honestly, so what if Country X hosts the World Cup of ____? The point of the Olympics is that it's a buffet of dozens of events. I think it's high time that someplace in South America or Africa got a chance.

It won't be *summer* in Brazil during the summer games...but it'll still be warm.

I'd rather the games go to Chicago instead of say, Rio. I think that Brazilians would rather host the world cup, and after South Africa, they're in a great spot to grab it. Getting the games would jeopardize the WC.

Don't hold it in Africa. South Africa is doing such a crummy job preparing for the WC, that rumors have been flying around that FIFA might move it if they dont ship up (America???)

Some of you people have little to no clue how painful it is to play a sport in 95 degree Farenheight weather with humidity. It is armchair decision makers such as yourselves that end peoples' sports careers and cause deaths and seek a potentially significantly less interesting world cup simply due to the heat the fans and atheletes have to deal with.

Honestly, if it went to Rio or Tokyo it wouldn't hurt my feelings. Europe, though? Yeah, pretty much no.

One of the reasons Chicago beat out LA is because of how close each of the venues are and all along a stretch of our awesome lakefront. Boating anyone? Juicy's parked in venue 17 and a lot of the others we could walk to.

You guys don't want it in Chicago? Then no soup for you! No parties, no boating, no soup.
