2K Greg's recent posts on the 2K forums

Yeah keep updating the thread, who cares if they don't want to come on these boards. It's not going to make any difference whether they post it here or we post it here for them really. It's not like they actually stay around and respond to questions any way.

Keep the updates coming for those who would rather not go to the 2K fora ;)

Elizabeth and Greg are still defending themselves against the raging customers from Mafia 2 and Bioshock 2, it will take a long time to show themselves on 2k forum without a huge bashing if they don't have solid news....

Well, it is up to the 2K people if they want active communicaton here or not. Although I wasn't pleased with 2K Greg's latest 'rude consumer' communication.... I do like hearing the good info on the upcoming updates and the sort!

I didn't mean to ignore your reply to me from before . . . of course it wasn't exactly smart/right for him to respond like that (even if he's right). He's probably getting frustrated with how things are going; but unfortunately for him, he needs to just hold his tongue there. That said, I can totally see why he's not coming over here right now--what do you think the reaction would be like? Many people think that because they are talking to are rep who isn't allowed to fight back (and because of the anonymity not dealing with someone face-to-face) that that gives them the right to be total [jerks].

But anyhow. Yeah, It's still good to hear the news. I think it'll take the first patch relase before they can come over here without it turning into a giant bashfest.

Active communication bro? lol, have you been over @ the 2k forums lately? Your posts get shut down, no matter how constructively worded they are, if you are negative in discussing CiV. While I have no personal animosity towards @k 'Liz and Greg, they are reps ( read PR peeps), and they're paid to blow smoke up your keister. IMO, i'm fairly sure they're being held on a short leash until 2k can figure out a way to spin this fiasco in a better light ( and maybe profit from it as well? hmnn? DLC charge anyone?).
I also agree about keeping the thread going. At least the potential is there for some hope of a meaningful dialogue with the 2k wonder twins.

OK, I want to ask the CFC members who follow this thread:

Should I keep on updating the OP?
Evrett37 says it is against our interest, we should have instead
active communication with 2K people here at CFC...

I dunno :)

Please continue updating it if you don't mind. (Evrett37 also thinks we should attack and persecute the modders and beta testers here at CFC to somehow punish them for our grievances with Firaxis' product, so I wouldn't take his desires too seriously.) :mischief:

You know, its treatment like this that leads to a lack of community reps. They're just normal people trying to do a job, and they're not responsible for the overall state of the game.

What treatment? It's not like this thread is designed to bash what 2KGreg posts.

This is one of the most incredible statements ever.

The reason why the 2K's are no longer showing up is simply that they don't feel the need to do so.
Sales are made, good news are not available.

And, btw, they haven't been treated badly here. They haven't provided anything helpful, either.
Oh, you may refer to the podcasts and this ominous FAQs.

Well, the podcasts were marketing, and the FAQ list did leave quite some things out, IIRC (apart from being late, wasn't it?)

Honestly, as far as I am concerned, neither of the both is needed here. Whatever they told us could have been read somewhere else, as it wasn't any news either.

Speaking of the podcast is anyone now a little dubious about Greg's claim that the French had tried to invade his territory by embarking units across the Persian Gulf, but that they learned not to do it by the time we started viewing the game because he kept destroying them as soon as they landed with his samurai?

If anybody's treating Greg badly, it's 2K for putting him in an untenable position.

The AI seems to embark and disembark units constantly for no apparent reason. I would have been surprised if the French hadn't embarked something during the war. I'm pretty sure that the claim that Napoleon had learned not to do it is pure bluff. There is no way that 2K (and Firaxis) didn't know what state the AI was in.

The AI isn't even programmed enough to evaluate a static combat position to decide the best thing to do with its troops on its turn to move. I doubt it has been programmed to LEARN. There is certainly no evidence of that in its behavior.

It is indeed very unlikely the AI has anything much of a learning mechanism. Remember that 2K Greg is not one of the developers, so he shouldn't be considered like he has the knowledge of one. Greg's comments were more likely based on his perception of events, but I agree it's very suspect that he'd attribute such a positive attribute to the AI without being entirely skeptical of it himself.

That said, I'd take any statements from 2K about the game and how it works with a handful of salt anyway. The Firaxis guys are more likely to know their stuff and probably have more freedom in what they can/should say, just not so much in when they can say it.

2K Greg has said on numerous, numerous occasions (and continues to do so) that he only brings information that he knows is 100% accurate, and will not guess on an answer.

So, sure he doesn't have the knowledge of a developer, but the devs are a phone call away (as 2K says); but if he actually followed what he says, he shouldn't base certain comments on his 'perception' and others on '100% accurate facts'.

This leaves only one motive, that 2K has him saying certain things for marketing purposes, when 2K knew these things aren't accurate or true, and then on the other side; only giving details to other questions (that may be more technical in nature) when he has 100% facts from the dev's (and in some cases, not giving an answer at all).

He's (2K) trying to go down both sides of the isle with this, and it only makes 2K look like a bunch of incompetent somewhat-untruthful publishers. (Not that we should be surprised with this... it's expected; especially with the way 2K acts on 2K forums; which is pathetic)

Poor Firaxis.

Do you have a link or the exact quote from Greg? (about the AI learning) I assume it was posted to a forum rather than spoken during the live gameplay, no?

I probably have the same instinct as you which is that it was probably just colloquial. He probably didn't mean to imply that the AI "learned" but just talking like a narrative gamer would talk about 'teaching the French a lesson' or what have you.

I think he said it live.

Anyway, I think it's rather interesting that Greg and miss Tobey tried so hard to be our "friends" before the release, but then magically stopped coming here when they game was released...

Some people seemed to think that Greg and miss Tobey posted here only because they were such friendly people. A few people were even afraid that the people who were questioning their intetions would make them sad and stop posting here.

In reality, of course, someone at 2k Games said "Hey, Greg and Tobey, there are A LOT of fans on the civfanatics forums as well, head over there and make some advertising". Their only goal is to trick as many people as possible into buying their product. And I'm totally okay with that But sadly, they are very, very bad at it;

You don't call customers rude. And even though it's natural to post less here after a game is release, you simply do not disappear overnight. It looks really bad and shows that you really had no interest in the fans or in discussing the game. You just wanted to make money. This will actually hurt the company in the long run, because when Greg show up to market Civilization VI, people will just be irritated.
