Interesting, no wonder none of my books had it if it's such a rarity. Rough guess based on head of state clue, Norwegian or Belgian?

Yes it is Belgian. And the manufacturer is Vickers.

Getting the tank-type right would just end up guessing. It is a T-15.
Here is a link

I'm going to give it to Akhorus for a few reasons. He got the tank-manufacturer right and he is a newbie. I would like to see a question from him.
Private: I hope you understand. You did get the country right.

man thats a rare tank.... i couldnt find it anywhere..not even in Janes....

my question?

In 1942-3, Churchill and Mountbatten came up with a plan for a new Aircraft carrier that would change the war. What was so special about it?

Ok Can anyone help me find an image of a CDL tank ??

It was an allied "secret weapon" which was only used late in the war. Most of the information on this specialist tank is rather sparse. the CDL was merely a code name to confuse the enemy. CDL being Canel Defence Light.

They were moddifed M3 Grant tanks which had a 50,000 candle light power light mounted which would shutter at tremedous speeds. This caused tempory blindness, inaddition nausia, disorentation and of course epileptic fits :D The shuttering would be effective during the day as well. At night or low light (during dawn assualts) these tanks would form corridors in which allied troops would adcance.

EDIT:
These specialist tanks were only released into battle under the direct authorty of Esihower. As the allies were paranoid the Germans / Soviets would copy there design. Also any more information would be helpful

Side note: The Russian tried something similar during the battle of Berlin. In which they had batteries of search lights illuminate the enemy. These were mostly useless as they merely silouted the russians making them easier targets.

I found 2 (with ease).

WOW

did the British have CDL tanks all the way back in 41 ?.
The Dover Matilda seems to suggest they would have been used for anti-invasion.

Okay. Here's what I got from my source.

The original CDL was meant for Matilda II Infantry tanks, a mere change of the turret from the standard gun one to the CDL turret. The conversions began in 1939 and the order was for 300 Matilda CDL conversions. One brigade was based in the UK and the other in North Africa, but none were used in action, since the commanders were too busy waiting for the 'right moment'.

Then, later in 1944, they figured that CDLs could be used for the Normandy op. So, they shifted the turrets to M3 Grants since the Matildas were a wee bit too slow and stately for modern warfare. Again, they were never used for their intented purpose instead creating artificial moonlight during the crossing of the Rhine and Elbe in 1945.

As another note, the US also expressed interest in the CDL, ordering 355 turrets and using the cover name T10 Shop Tractor. :hmm:

anyone ask a question or did I miss something?

In the armored warfare that took part in France after the allied invasion many types of tanks were employed from both sides. But, how many Shermans (the heavy allied tank) did the allies loose for the destruction of one Panther or Tiger?

man that was an easy one.... NEXT!

Okie:

What invention gave the Germans the edge over the Allies during night fighting with armoured vehicles(I want the name and a quick description) ;).

EDIT: rephrased question, badly worded.
