31 Player Hotseat

It would be pretty epic to have a game like AoI in 31-player PBEM...
Monitoring this thread closely:scan:

Hello Sima Qian, what values are you editing live in the game? It would be awesome to find what exactly is marking a player as "human" or "AI". I have Art*Money which can be used to look into and edit the memory of processes manually, but have had no luck in finding that "human/AI" flag.

Welcome to Civfanatics NiteKat. It seems like such a "flag" might be a good thing for an editor. In fact I think the ability for a civ to be played by a human is in there (editor). Multi-player is neglected as a subject, I think, because of the 8 player "limit".

Forgive my cluelessness, but can anyone explain the difference between hotseat and PBEM to me? Is it only that extra screen when you end your turn to "Save & Continue" or exit? Or do you actually enter your email address somewhere and the game will send the email automatically?

I had been under the impression that PBEM games actually involved you opening up your email program and attaching the save files, but I could be wrong.

Sima,

To me, it appears as though the only difference is the screen asking you to save, quit, and then email to your partner.

Although they don't neccessarily have to be emailed. They can be posted on the forums too. I myself have never started a PBEM, just joined one, although I assume that it is the same principle as hotseat.

Fixed an embarrassing bug where choosing '*' to make all civs human-controlled actually only did it for the first 27 instead of all 31. New download link is here.

I think I have an idea of how to get the PBEM prompt to show up, but since I'm not involved in PBEM I'll need some help from PBEM'ers to see if the changes are necessary and sufficient to get a PBEM game working.

this one isn't working for me. I downloaded it, loaded a game and tried to run the program thing and it just flashed on the screen for half a second and nothing happened. How can i get it to work?

1. Did the old version work for you?

2. You mention that something just flashed across the screen and disappeared. Can you run it from a command prompt and see if it gives you any error message?

3. When you have C3C running, what does the taskbar say when you put your mouse over the C3C icon?

@The program flashes the screen and closes because there isn´t C3C running on the background, just load/start a game and then and only then ask the program to run...

The program works fine for me.

Note: Another good use to this program is that now we have the ability to ask a friend to play in a save game we have been running for some time, and want to compete against a certain civ, but not controlled by the AI, you can turn that AI into a human player with this program and play some turns against your friend, then you can even switch back to the AI to finish the game.

If only we could set up a PBEM with more than 8 players...

Ok so i opened up civ3 started a new game and went to run mp. I clicked on this and it still did the flashing thing. Then i tried again, and got this message:

I'm not sure what the problem is, i'll just have to try again

That's really weird. The tool doesn't even require .NET at all.

What does the "Details" button say after you expand that part of the error screen?

Are you able to answer #1 and #3 for me? That'd really help in figuring out the problem.

no the old version didn't work. and it says Sid Meier's Civilization III: Complete when i put the mouse over it in the task bar

im not sure what the details said but i'll try to get it to come up again.

Aha. Thanks, I know what the problem is now. My fault, I'll see if I can fix it.

For the No-Raze-Patch there are also two version necessairy: One for CivComplete and one for normal C3C. May be here it is the same problem.

@dominatr Please give this one a try, although since I've never tested it against Complete it won't surprise me if it makes all sorts of things go wrong. Save your work etc. in case your system crashes.

@Civinator - can you point me to the separate threads where they posted the No-Raze patch for Conquests vs Complete? I should probably do some analysis to see the differences.
