31 Player Hotseat

would you be able to help me with both because as i looked around for 1.1.43 it's not showing up anywhere on the web, and i've never really used the command prompt either.

I can help you run from a command prompt. You'll need to extract it to someplace on the computer (for example, something like C:\Program Files\mp\mp.exe). Next, click start->Run... and type cmd and hit enter.

This will probably bring you to something like "C:\Documents and Settings\<username>". You should type "cd\ .." and hit enter, and continue to do so until it simply says "C:\". After that, type "cd\ " and then the path to your executable. In this example, you would type "cd\ Program Files\mp\mp.exe".

EDIT: Edited to fix a typo.

i tried that and it isn't working. what am i doing wrong?

Hm. That's odd. It appears as though it should be working. Can you type cd\Program Files and see if that brings you to C:\Program Files? If that works, then type cd\mp and see if that brings you to C:\Program Files\mp.

the bolded worked and then upon typing in cd\mp, i got this:

even though i made a folder called mp in Programs and Files with mp.exe sitting inside of it.

Okay, at C:\Program Files, can you type ls and then hit enter? This will list all of the folders that exist in Program Files. See if mp exists in it.

edit: that is LS, lowercase.

Okay, try typing dir then. That should have the same affect with a different presentation.

Did you add any spaces on the end of mp when you created the file? If the directory is there, and we can find it via the dir command, the only reason we wouldn't be able to navigate to it with cd\ would be if the folder name wasn't exactly mp. Try renaming the folder to something like Awesome Civilization Cheat, and then try to navigate to it in the command prompt.

i renamed the folder to "hello" and tried navigating to it: with cd\hello and it says it cannot find the path

That's the strangest thing I've ever seen.... okay, if it won't let you move to the folder, let's bring the executable to you? Go ahead and move the mp.exe to Program Files. We know you can navigate to there, so do so, then type mp.exe, it should open up the program.

Awesome! So mp.exe opened up. It looks as though you do not have Civilization open. Make sure you open it up, start a game, and then run mp.exe again just like you did.

When you load to the main menu, what is the version number? I believe it shows in the bottom right of the screen. If you're not using the most up-to-date version, that could be the issue.

First open civ and launch a game, ONLY after the turn is playing, start mp.exe and do your thing, before quiting the program mp.exe, write "!" to save what you changed.
