Okay, photo:

I want the approximate date, approximate place, and the political conditions surrounding the photo.

Wow, that's an early war photo. Judging by the panzer uniform still 1939. Was this photo taken when the Soviets and Germans met on the "Curzon" line in Poland?

Good! :goodjob:
Though you were more precise than I wanted, it shows early war (1939, anyways) where the Soviets and the Germans meet in Poland, when Molotov-Ribbentropp was still in effect!
Your go!

Cheers, Noncon.

I don't have time to think up a really difficult question and photos are always good, so...

Name the vehicle being unloaded and the aircraft, (bonus points if you know why this is a rare photo!):

Dornier 122?
Vehicle is a Wespe (or a Hummel?)
Biggest frikking transport aircraft of the war.

GDW game "Torch" has a reference to the huge Messerschmitt "323" having been used move reinforcements to Tunisia late '42 early '43. The SP guns might be Marders? And it looks a bit "north Africa" in the picture.

Wow, I remember Game Designers Workshop games! I think I still have Fire in the East in my loft somewhere. Though, I was always more of an Avalon Hill fan myself. Anyway, looks like GDW gets the cookie. ;)

It is indeed one of the huge Me 323's unloading a Marder II in Tunisia, 1943. It is a pretty rare photo as nearly all of the monsters that attempted the crossing to North Africa were shot down and only a few made it.

Your go Wotan.

Will post a question tonight.

I too started out with AH games, the first few being Blitzkrieg, 3R and RC. Those got me hooked and I soon found SPI and GDW. The all time favourites are the Europa series, I still have them on a shelf with easy access (the rest are in the attic) and look at them occationally. The game that I found to have the highest excitement level though was SPI Atlantic Wall but only during the landing phase. When the game moves into post landing it has a few annoying flaws that makes it into a less than enjoyable game but we often played it through the landings only. Almost forgot another favourite, WiF by ADG, it will hopefully make it into a PC edition by Matrix Games.

University days, how I miss them... With all the face to face wargaming going on, in between partying and the occational day of studies... ;)

Another picture question. Another transport. What was the name of this contraption? No need to name the tracked vehicle or the motorcycle but if you know please tell.

It a Mauder

Wespe was based on Pzi chassies and they were SP
The Hummel based on Pzii chassies it too is also an SP

It oviously a glider.
the marking look like an RAF glider
But the tank small tracks and spare metal tyre makes it out as Bren gun carrier

The gliders class and name I have no idea

I think we've moved on! :)

...however, that's not correct....

The Wespe was built on a Pz II chassis and the Hummel was built on a Pz IV chassis with a Pz III engine. They were both SP artillery pieces as opposed to Anti-tank like the Marder II.

@FF: Yes, it is a glider but as with the Me321/323 it was "tried" with engines as an alternative. RAF is a good observation. And it is a Bren, it could actually carry two of those.

@Jerico one: No

@Nonconformist, yes it was! I do not know if it was designed with that tank in mind or if it was the other way around or just a convenient solution.
