We all know the big things everyone likes and dislikes a lot, this is not what this thread is meant to be about. It's about the little tiny details that you see as a nice subtleties or that you sort of think that do not belong in the game for obscure reasons.

Again, only small details, hopefully things nobody has said here before.

5 small details I like:

1) The foxes animation, cute stuff (and I miss the pigs).
2) That soldiers turn to dust in a battle if I switch to the tactical view for a split second and then come back to the 3d view.
3) That wind section in the soundtrack when playing as the Aztecs or Incas.
4) Hearing that New Policy sound (the pen sound) :c5culture:
5) Completing the Honor branch and feeling badass.

5 small details I hate:

1) any voice infliction by the "Son" in the intro movie.
2) Civilopedia "factoids"
3) Stone... just Stone.
4) That everyone in a horse uses the same horse model.
5) The technology screen, for no particular reason. I usually punch whatever technology seems fanciest just to get that screen off my face.

1 small detail that bugs me to no end.

If a unit is in a city in order to put it to sleep you have to Garrison it, if you attack with that unit but it's still in the city, it's not considered garrisoned... So the next turn you have to Garrison the unit, which doesn't cost any movement points but for some reason you can't do it if you have no movement points left... to then fire with the city... But if you have any other unit to move first after you hit Garrison it will move your camera to that unit, and after you fire with the city the camera will move again... and after THAT you have to move back to the city just to fire with the unit you now garrisoned which now leaves it un-garrisoned and you have to repeat the whole freaking process the next turn....

If a patch ever fixes THAT, I'll <3 Firaxis forever. (I consider it a small detail since most of the time it's barely worth going thru the hoops unless you have Oligarchy)

Hmm
Love
1. The England music I vow to thee my country
2. Another European general peace time music, don't know what it is, was in Civ4 also, used in a Warburtons (Bakers born and bred) commercial in UK in the 80s/90s. Love it, somebody please tell me what it is!!
3. The ocean how it is darker on one side and lighter on the others
4. How you can spam right click on the side of the screen to rapidly scroll, try it, fun!!
5. Isabellas accent.

Dislike
1. Napolean, just don't like his face
2. Leaders don't change clothes in new eras like in Civ3
3. Can't shift select multiple saves to delete them in game
4. Civilopedia also
5. Diplomatic victories (maybe fixed in new patch) OK. Thats a balance whine sooo.... not being able to shift-move a warrior and worker/settler together in 1 group.

Like
1. The different music for each civilization, that gets you in the mood.
2. The satisfying feeling when you build a city. I didn't really have that in civ 4.
3. The advisormarks for techs/builds that makes you feel even more sure that your choice is right, if you pick the advised ones. And if you pick a different one, you just feel like you know better than the game :)
4. Nice layout and music at the start-menu.
5. All the units look like small gnomes. They are nearly as wide as they are tall.

Dislike
1. Augustus' haircut. Can't stand it.
2. The way some units hit each other 10 times in the end without dying and then suddenly teleports back.

I like:

1. The deserts. The sand dunes look really impressive.
2. The icefields/glaciers. Quite beautiful in my opinion.
3. The flocks of birds circling around fish resources.
4. Russia's colors. They look really striking to me.
5. Moai. Cool looking and a good game concept flavour wise.

I dislike:

1. The rivers. Hopefully they will be made to look more natural in the future.
More oxbows and little islands like in cIV.
2. The computer stating that it doesn't like you since you are trying to win
in the same way that you are.
3. The ice borders at the top and the bottom of the map. Looks too jagged.
4. Railroads that don't match up. Some look huge and others look tiny.
5. The fact that Mongol horses look identical to other Civ's horses. (ie Alexander and Napoleon)

EDIT: The computer stating that it doesn't like you since you are trying to win
in the same way that they are.

Pretty much the same thing here.

2. Another European general peace time music, don't know what it is, was in Civ4 also, used in a Warburtons (Bakers born and bred) commercial in UK in the 80s/90s. Love it, somebody please tell me what it is!!

Dvořák's New World Symphony was in Civ 4, and a Hovis ad from the 70s. Is that the one you mean?

I like:
1) Renaissance buildings for, you know, Arabia, Persia etc.( all that gold!!!!)
2) El Dorado. ( again, all that gold)
3) Catherine's marble hall.
4) Elizabeth's jewelry. And the fact that she wears earrings on her hair(??).
5) Ooh!!! And fighters. The way they carry out their missions, and the noise.
I dislike:
1) Garissoned units pretty much destroy the entire scene of the city, with their over-sized feet.
2) Napoleon. (argh)
3) Rare occasions when farms overspill into the sea.
4) When Stonhenge, the Pyramids or Haiga Sophia are accidentally built in the sea, which is weird.
5) I dunno, nothing else.

Like:
1) Monty, I love having him in games, his deal proposal always gets me, and his dialogue is funny 'My soldiers have proven to be weak and worthless, I'm glad you killed them all' or 'I can give you a closer look at my alter if you'd like' The cheering and booing from the crowd is amazing.
2) Tank/Panzer sounds, always are intimidating
3) Harald; seems like a guy I could have beer or two with
4) Bismark's DOW; always scares outta me, walking threateningly towards screen, yelling in German

Dislike:
1) Genghis becomes a broken hearted school girl when you back stab him 'Your action fill my heart with sadness, there is surely a special place in hell for you' Leaders need more customized texts (like Monty) Something more like, 'Bah, you beat me to the punch'
2) Cathy's angry screen; just bugs me. Felt better getting slapped in IV
3) Worked/Unworked tiles have same animation, can never tell if city is using tiles properly
4) Science adviser; absolutely useless. Military dude can tell me about relative army strengths, he should praise advancement and scold being left behind.
5) No culture advisor; if there was one he and science dude should butt heads over adopting Piety or Rationalism. Actually whole advisor thing could use some work
6)Konigsberg not a German city, makes me sad :(

I like

1) how cities look in the modern age
2) the unique art for the DLC civs, especially Polynesia
3) no more road/railroad spam everywhere
4) You can change production in all your cities at the same time pretty easily through the city list
5) The city AI is a step up from previous games, the "default focus" is generally pretty decent.

I dislike:

1) why do units have to have a button for extra options like disband & whatnot? There's room for all the commands to be listed out in one row of buttons.
2) animations for planes look nice but take way too long.
3) when the mouseover says an improvement will be done in 1 turn when it actually means 2 turns
4) when a barb scares a worker I forget what he was doing and end up with a half-built improvement.
5) too many notifications in the late game about city states declaring war & making peace constantly (and AI diplo visits apologizing for attacking a CS you were allied with a thousand years ago)

I like

1) Exhilarating laughter when I first saw Giant Death Robot
2) All leaders speak on their language
3) Unit/buildings/leaders (circle) icons
4) Everything about Social policies
5) The feeling when you outwit the AI (not abuse the bugs but PURE outwitting)

I dislike:

1) When your experienced ranged units become melee units adn their bonuses don't count sh*t
2) Awful look of roads & railroads
3) When onother civ that was your friend for 300 turns attacks you without a reason
4) Barbarians that appear from nowhere
5) Leaders don't change clothes & hairstyles in new eras like in Civ3

5) Leaders don't change clothes & hairstyles in new eras like in Civ3

Mrs. M (Orson's Wife): How come they are all wearing the same outfits, I thought you were in the present age?.

OrsonHimelself: Ah, yeah, I think that changing their clothes would had taken a lot of man hours.

Mrs. M: this game is so lame.

Like
1. Great wall provides a wall in the city (same with Lighthouse...) It is nearly useless but its an enormously immersive detail!!
2. How the sun enlights the room behind Bismarck - didnt notice it for quite a while but it in the beginning I was kinda: wow
3. Monty is once again a crazy warmonger, like he was in civ 4
4. Wonders on the map
5. Ramses/Isabella - they sound so cool.

dislike:
1. Read it 1 minute ago: Leaders do not change clothing - YES!!! Please return that.
2. Once you build improvements everywhere, the look of the world does not change AT ALL. I had liked in civ 4 that huts turned into cities and mines are replaced by windmills later.
3. That sound of buttons... WAAAH!! Sounds just nasty. What about something more discreet?
4. "WoUlD YoU be INTresTED in a trADE agrEEment with ENGland???"
5. Attacking a unit with 1 hp with a unit of 10hp... I have to watch for 10 seconds that my 10 guys shoot at this lone guy but he kills one after another. Makes me wish I had Darth Vader skills of choking the leader of that squad for his inability!!!!

Love:
1. The amazing subtleties of the voice acting for leaders that brings them to life and seems to really reflect the civilization.
"You have mistaken our love of peace for weakness!... You will regret this day!"

2. Automatic turn ending.

3. Reaching the tipping point on Immortal of Deity difficulty when you're no longer a scared victim but an emerging super power and humbling a once arrogant and stronger AI Civ.

4. Marathon mode ancient and medieval warfare.

5. Autocracy as the Germans or Japanese with a legitimate AI threat still in the game.

Hate:

1. Lazy subtitle translations.

2. Getting screwed by automatic turn ending.

3. AI that won't even give in to an open border demand after suffering a nuclear holocaust and begging for peace.

4. Alexander looks like a tool in this game. Give us Leonidas for a change!

5. Trading posts look like crap.

I like:
1.Strategic war... (although the AI is weak at it)
2.Leaders that speak their language (more or less)
3.The look and feel of the geography.
4.Hexes
5.Social Policies

Things I dislike:
1. Not enough Civs. After playing EU3 for a while now, I think Sid Meier could learn a LOT from Paradox.
2.Diplomacy
3.Death Robot is the dumbest thing I have ever seen in Civ...
4.Lack of Wonder cinematics
5.Why is the UN so completely and utterly useless? There are NO international alliances, organizations.. No League of Nations, HRE, No NATO, Warsaw Pact... nothing... and the United Nations is garbage. (It needed to be said twice...)
