Currently in c2c a maximum of fifty civs can be in your game at any one time. I was wondering of that limit can be changed, as an option of course, too 25 for weaker computers, and too 100,150,200, and 250 for stronger computers. If you do have that many civs in your game and your computer can handle it the only problem I can see accruing is that the scoreboard, graphs, and other popuos that show every civ would get cluttered. the way to fix that would probably to make the scoreboard scrollable. I'm not sure if doing this is possible or probable but if possible this would be pretty awesome.

Thank you for the quick response. I will probably try to find the spot that defines how many civs you can have and change it manually. It would just be nice If it could be a bug or even a starting menu option.

There IS a bug config value for it (to lower it - the max is set by the DLL as stated above), but as far as I can see it's not exposed in the BUG config UI for some reason.

Would it cause my game to crash if I changed the dll

Edit: could you just change the maximum to 250, have the regular setting be 50 and through bug let people have it at what ever they want?

It would make things more memory hungry, and also make it save-game incompatible (without further work)

I definitely say NO here. If you play with over even 25 civs in LATE games, it will still "bogg down." :(
You got to remember this is a 3GB game engine:sad: and it doesn't matter how many your PC has or how NEW it is, 3GB is IT! And thats using the 3GB switch for the OLDER PC's. Win 7 and Win 8 already has it in place.

I will never play more than 25, but some people do, including the GEM map, but i dont play that. I think it could handle "maybe" 30-35, but thats still "pushing it."

Also remember when playing IF you do like alot of cultures, that NEVER ever and i mean NEVER place more than 48 on your map. It needs room to "breath."

Would it still use more memory if you weren't using all of the civs. If in the BUG menu you switched the maximum civ number to say 25 would it still take up more memory?

There is a 64-player limit in the EXE.

Yeah, but why break something that is NOT broke, besides, if anyone can make it to the, heck i will even say Galactic Era with 50 civs, i'll pay them $25. bucks. (Without cheating that is)

If my memory is not too bad, there is another problem when 2 civs have the same colors and have a common frontier. And with 2 many civs this WILL happen.

Sometimes it defaults to a different color as not to have that situation, but it can happen if they started off quite a ways from each other to begin with. I believe.

I have seen it happen with the Carthaginians and Netherlands when they were placed next to each other at start. Both are Orange.

In my current GEM game (as Japan) both me and a near neighbour (forget the name - the one that starts a bit north of Korea) are red. Since the civs between us have been wiped out early this is a bit annoying!

Was that a pre-made map or a mapscript?

You do know that you can change your color in the BUG options, right?

May I ask your computer specs? I'm curious on what it would take to run this game with 50 civs! Currently my pc barely supports 10 :(.
