A Babylon 5 Mod for the Final Frontier Mod

Hi there!

Hope you're still working on this, I'd love to check out a new version with fixed events and all.
I'll put up some feedback when it comes out, assuming you're not dead or anything!

I'm bumping this thread for great justice.

Also because I'm very fond of this mod, and I'm hoping the pile of issues the author and other players noticed (events firing, civs not expanding, etcetera) are fixed and just awaiting a sweet update from PsiCorps. Don't leave me hanging, bro! (or all those other players either. Can't forget them. (But especially me.))

Thank you both for the support.

I've had to slow down on the modding, RL is not my friend.

I am working to get more events in, hopefully one of them will lead to some interesting things but I need some help with that one which is another reason for the delay in a new version.

If I may:

Atomicgamer is down. TKO'd. Kaputz. It's also where you're storing your download.

Can haz new dl link, pleez?

On a different note, I'd suggest fixing what you can quickly, posting that, then continue meditating on the longer fixes and content. Also, post your thoughts! What you're working on, why it's not working out, what you want to try, etcetera. Someone on here will have the skill to suggest the right path, there are programming gurus hanging out like cockroaches on this site. Heck, I might have a contribution or two (though maybe not, depends on the issue). Many smarter codemonkeys than me are present, though. You might catch their eye with an interesting problem.

Thanks for letting me know about Atomic Gamer Parahacker. I'm about to go away for a few days so can't do anything about it right now. Once I'm back I will look for a new hosting site.

Here's a few of the things I want to develop and try to get into the B5 Mod.

  1. Add Expedition to the Rim Project. (Spawns a new inhabited Star System for the Shadows/Zha'Ha'Dum)
  2. Add Expedition to the core Project. (Spawns a new inhabited Star System for the Vorlons/Vorlon Homeworld)
  3. Mining Outposts to be 'worked' by taking food from nearest Star System so they can grow and eventually become a self sufficient Colony.
  4. Barbarians(Aliens/Raiders) capable of carrying Squadrons need to spawn with squadrons aboard.
  5. Each time an upgrade is purchased it uses a Movement Point.
  6. Jump Lanes to be un-buildable in Asteroid Tiles.

Some of these will be quite simple changes. Others, provided you know how to merge C++ (which I don't) will be a little harder and a few would require a lot more work. If anyone that takes a look at these thinks they can help out please post here or PM me.

I've downloaded and tried to extract three times now, and every time I do I get an error message saying that the file is either corrupt or that the file ended abruptly.

Is this happening to anyone else?

 :( I'm hoping that this isn't because I've recently had my PC updated to Win 10. I'll check the DL myself and see what happens.

Yep. Unreadable; Peazip is asking me if I have a password for the archive to open it, which usually means it's corrupted (or, rarely, password locked). I thought for a moment you'd rar5'd it, and drumheller didn't have winrar or a rar5 -capable unrar program, but I do; and it didn't work.

So that's another voice for 'corrupted file'.

OK guys, thanks for letting me know, i'll do my best to get this fixed asap.

I'm wondering now if it has something to do with me being on Win 10 instead of Win 7 as I was a few weeks ago.

Just to confirm; I also cannot extract the 7zip file using 7zip on a Windows 7 64-bit platform. Even tried installing the newest 7-zip ("beta" because they haven't updated their stable release for like four years!) to test.

If Windows 10 was the problem, that would be... interesting.

I assume you can extract the file on your own system?

You could try uploading to sourceforge in just a straight zip, maybe.

Hi TC01
To answer your questions.

Yes, extracted and installed ok, Mod booted up fine.

My first attempt was WinZip which got reported as corrupted, secon go was with WinRar which had the same reports and finally 7zip which you've experienced for yourself.

Need someone else that has Win 10 to try Dling and installing.

Poking round in a hex editor, the file I've downloaded is missing the end header that usually (according to this page) is found at the end of a 7zip file.

So while Windows 10 (or some combination of it, your network connection, and Sourceforge?) might be the issue, I'm skeptical anyone else would be able to open the file.

Have you tried downloading the file you've uploaded and extracting that? Also you should compute the SHA1 checksum; the file I have has the following:

Code:
0fc10090ccaf577695df0912f91618e8d1ffa3d6 Babylon 5 V3.3.7z

If the checksum doesn't match what you're uploading, then they are different files and something's wrong on your end (or Sourceforge's)-- if they do match, then yeah, some weird Windows 10 thing is happening.

My SHA1 is as follows - DEB220F14050AE0BB5E6F2704BC22A48A3CDDEF5

I've been hearing a lot of people are avoiding Sourceforge these days. Is this why? Haven't overheard the 'why' part yet.

Anyway... maybe try uploading to Git?

A side question - I prefer to mod my Huge maps to grid sizes 64:40 when I can; even 'Huge' maps always seem claustrophobic to me. My computer has never complained about the larger sizes, even though it's an older beast, so it works for me. Is that possible in your mod, and if so, how would I do it (when downloads work as you intend, that is ^_^)? Would I just edit CIV4WorldInfo.xml as usual, or is there a different process?

They've started doing shady things like bundling adware with "abandoned" projects and making it difficult for projects to leave. They've also slowly been pushing more and more advertising and "fake download links" (the sort of things that look like a download link for the project but are actually an advertisement of some kind) for the past few years.

Their behavior has become questionable enough that it wouldn't entirely surprise me if they were partly the problem, although I'd be a bit surprised that they would just corrupt an upload to their site.

Since the checksums clearly don't match, an alternative download link would probably help debug the problem, yeah. Perhaps Mega? I used to use WePlayCiv's download section as an alternate to CFC for files that were larger than the size limit here too.
