A Ban list thread in Site Feedback?

You know, in the staff forum we have a ban list thread where mods can post about bans they gave: who, where, why, and for how long. Now I think it's probably useful to also have ban list thread in Site Feedback because:

- Banned posters can visit the thread to see why they are banned and for how long. Currently lots of banned posters frequently don't know why they are banned or for how long because mods don't usually have time to send emails to notify them.

- All posters can visit the thread to see the exact reason why a poster is given a ban. In the past, some posters started complaint threads because they didn't know the whole story. The ban list thread should reduce confusion and make posters more informed.

- Since mods are required to include justifications for all bans, that thread could serve as a "list of things that can get you banned" thread.

Because not all bans are final, I think the best way is to have two ban list threads: one in the staff and a public one in Site Feedback. The one in site feedback should be a closed (and sticky?) thread so only I can post in it. I'll only post about a ban in Site Feedback when it's decided in the ban list thread in the staff forum. This way mods don't need to post in two ban list threads.

Let me know what you think! :king:

I'll second that.

I wasn't sure why or if I had been banned, when it happened.
This will save much trouble and streamline any of these unfortunate occurances...

Good idea, M'lord!

I think there should be a rule: Anyone posting in the Ban List thread who is not a moderator or Admin, gets their name added to the ban list ;)

If the thread is closed nobody else can post in it!

Anyway, I think it is a good idea, because Site Feedback really has degenerated into a spam fest recently.
:D

Why don't we commence this list with a week for floppa? :p

I think it's an plausible idea. I don't see why it needs to stay closed though - we could just copy and paste our writeups from one forum to the other. Just state explicitly in the thread title that objections/questions are not to be posted in the ban thread itself.

Sounds like a good idea. :cooool: Should make for some interesting reading. ;)

Good idea! But why not give floppa the power to post in it so he can provide commentary to lighten up the thread? ;)

I can just imagine it:

TF: Such ans Such was banned for...blah...blah..
Floppa: Another one bites the dust!

:D That'd be great.

I agree,
but the site admin should make certain that all bans since the start of this site should be mentioned in it. Otherwise it would be historically incomplete and that would be a shame. ;)

I'm horrible at estimating, but I'd say that the list would contain close to....17 million bans. :D :p ;)

I'm all for it!

It will provide me with much amusement, thats for damn sure!

We look to the future, not the past. Why dig out the past and embarass ppl?

Besides I don't know if there's a full list of the hundreds of bans made since time immemorial. :) :p

Good idea. It might not be a good idea to allow the rabble to post in that thread, however. You know how we like to spam things up...

Sounds good TF. :goodjob:

I suggest that it remains closed like you said. The top post could be of the current CFCers banned and the date that they are released. The following posts would be you copying and pasting the mods reason for the ban. I am all for accountability but public accountability could also backfire: It could start requiring the mods to spend so much time justifying their bans (as has been seen in the mass of ban complaints that were later withdrawn once the people understood the reason behind it). Is the method of Mods to Admin discussing the reason of the ban so flawed?

This is a great idea, but only if the thread is closed. Mods will surely have to justify their ban recommendations in the Staff forum anyway (I hope ;)) so to copy and paste this onto the thread here wouldn't be too tough. On no account should anyone but TF be allowed to post in this thread and there should be a ban on threads commenting on the above thread. If someone can't post in the thread listing those banned but fancies a whinge, then what is to stop them just copying the reason for the ban from the above thread and making a new whiney thread? I'm tempted to say that the best way to stop this is to follow the floppa philosophy :), but that may be a little too harsh. As far as I'm concerned then the fewer whiney threads in Site Feedback the better and reactions to something posted in the banned thread should be outlawed too.
"Sexy Death" is right - the mods in question should only have to make the single post (copied from the Staff forum) in justification of a ban and then not have to reply to thousands of posts from fools who believe this place is a democracy.

So once someone's ban had been served how long would news of it stay on the thread/forum for?

Wouldn't it be a bit embarassing if there was a reminder of your ban on a sticky thread in this forum for, say, a month after it was over? I think any such thread should be wiped or deleted periodically. Any idea how often?
