A Ban list thread in Site Feedback?

Good idea TF. Just make sure it's closed and stickied so everyone can see the banned list on the top of the site feedback but nobody can post whiny remarks about their bannings

No!
Seeing the gusto with which "Sexy Death" threw himself into the Grand Spam Tourney, I would hate to see him try his hand at a banning competition too. We would then have to have a separate stat on the front page:
Forum members: 19,000 almost
Members currently banned: 4,000 or so
Members banned by Palehorse: 2,300 ish.

Sure give it a try. I agree to keeping it closed as well, but a clarification of the rules (I am Pel in disquise;) ) would seem to be in order for threads started about the list. Are they allowed? If so with what limits? Will Floppa be able to start a thread entitled, "Banning #23, what a putz!" ? ;)

Seriously though, everyone seems to think that keeping the thread closed is a good idea, I am just wondering about other threads discussing it.

Loser is my definition. Refining it a bit would be an incompetant loser that is basically harmless, but is annoying. I believe it comes from Hebrew, or Yiddish, so our friends from Israel might be able to go into more detail.

Would list include everyone that has ever been banned on CFC? Or just the people who get banned from now onwards? It would be nice if we could see the whole list as it could be quite funny :)

Oh well, I'll just have to get banned again so that i can get on the list... j/k

Your wish is my command!

Sorry, no! Regalia would be "Insignien" in German.

And "Putz" is a German word, too, but most likely not meant in this context.
Putz==plaster, the thing that cover stone walls pretty often.
:D

Good idea :goodjob: and it should be a closed thread, it could be the Top Sticky thread for a new forum however  .

Full ban history would be my preferable option, in any case I have to go bananas to be on the list anyway. I presume the Permanent Bans will be listed anyway.

My 0.02 cents on the reasons for banning. I guess in 99% of the bans a mod should easily be able to explain why the ban happened. The facts can be found in the posts from the banned. And I do not see this as a courtroom type of justification for the mods, it is more like mods acting as referees in a soccermatch. Most of the time they are right in their decisions, sometimes it is arguable or questionable. It also makes the unwritten rules more accessable.

Sorry, but I STRONGLY disagree with this.

All it will promote is shame for those banned, or they will see it as a badge of honor.

No other site would even consider this for those very reasons, and I WILL NOT contribute to humiliating posters just because many here think it would be fun.

Rethink this Thunderfall, it is an insult to the posters, even though many of those who have posted haven't realized it.

Yet.

I take your point; I (for one) am interested in this idea purely for the entertainment value.

I don't know if it would be humiliating for posters to be on the list, but even if it is, is that a reason not to have a list?

Maybe, if it was clearly stated in the fora rules that a banning would result in your name going on the list, then it would be a "well, you were warned" type of scenario. In this case, the list should NOT be a historical one.

The bigger issue with this is whether people will seek to be "on the list". That would certainly degrade the quality of the fora as a whole, and greatly increase the work for the mods.

Partly agree with the reasoning but I don't with the conclusion.

Basically those who get banned should be ashamed otherwise it doesn't make a lot of sense to get a ban. That some posts in this thread see a funny part in it as well is the true nature of CFC on any topic IMHO.

TF's proposal still allows some moderation in order to manage the badge of honor issue.

Biggest plus on my part is the build of the unwritten rules list.

AoA, your reply makes me even more convinced it is a good proposal.

I fully agree with you AoA,

It will result in a greater number of whining threads, lots of discussions and spam posts and certainly in much more work, explanations for mods and site admin.

But I think TF is a little bit bored and is looking for some sensation, so I'm afraid he will not listen. ;)

HUH... and what "moderation" are you talking about.

Many of the actions that get people banned are just those of people screaming for attention. To create such a list, you are actually rewarding them by putting their name in lights. In addition, you are giving them a reason to do something that is against the rules just so they can be added to the list.

And for those that aren't screaming for attention, you are just adding shame. Some people that break the rules are truely sorry for their actions... so how do you repay them... by making a joke out of them public.

Either way... this is not a good idea. There is indeed a reason why most sites don't have a public list like that. It would be a shame to see CF do it.
