I had one of those very enjoyable Civ moments in my game as India.

Cathy owned the only Ivory on the map but as usual, she pulled her "early, stupid war" and got dog-piled. With all of that going on, the Statue of Zeus (which I **own** :mischief:) did not get built until very late in the game and it was built by the Persians.

When the announcement came up on the screen, I thought it would be nice to give my friend Xerxes a gift to commemorate the completion of so notable an art piece. I gifted him with Metallurgy.

:lol:

Ok, my bad but how often do you get to do something so winsomly vile?

That is the kind of moment that keeps us playing Civ. It just works out that you can have a bit of fun within the game.

How about others? What do you consider your "Civ Moment".

Yeah, winning is good but the style points are more fun. :crazyeye:

That's one of the better moments I have heard Darski.

I remember a Game where I was far Ahead in Tech, So I gifted the Russians Replacable Parts for a ROP and some gold, and while she is going ga ga over her new Infantry, i am loading up the Modern Armor near her cities.

Don't just sell "techs" to the civ with the GLib. Sell them Education . . .

I haven't given the gift of Demo to a civ before launching a fatal attack, but I have:
  • Sold Educ to the civ with the GLib;
  • Sold Metallurgy to the civ with the Great Wall just before attacking;
  • Given away Education to the civ with the GLib just before a big round of trading
Ah, good times . . .

just had the greatest game ever over the course of the last 3 days (33 hours playtime)...even though i lost.lol

i was playing as rome (which i never do) & i had a very small piece of land w/ nothing except iron for most of the game. but i also had saltpeter :)
everyone kept pushing me around as they expanded & grew stronger...but i gave them all what they wanted (which i also never do). i built as big & strong of an army as i could, made ROPs w/ them all, traded w/ them, acted like their (b) itch then when they built rails i unloaded everything i had on their capitals while they were fighting each other.lol wiped out everyone except the inca who was way too strong to think of attacking.
i managed to take over most of my hemisphere but lost a space race victory to the incans.

RoP rape and 10+ tech from GL town, I only had stack of 14 MI and 12 cats - all force I could muster in 'Famine' start (look at "interesting screenshots" thread).

Lost town of GL soon after that but came third in overall fight, 4 players (counting me in) were left in end game. Ai opponents almost launched spaceship, but sneak attacks on them made them focus on me instead.

Hmm... This happened very long ago, but I'll write it anyways.

I had created a scenario that had all the civs in it. First the game went quite well but then it went really bad. Everyone turned against me all of a sudden and my cities got captures one after the other. Right before my capital got taken, I managed to get a settler and a spearman or something onto a galley and get away. At this point I didn't have a single city, just my galley with its settler. I managed to make my way to a deserted island in the middle of the ocean which I knew where it'd be. I founded a city there and lived there for quite long before anyone visited (I think they didn't get magnetism or navigation until that late). I don't remember how it all ended because it was so long ago, I think I lost, but it was really satisfying anyway managing to escape like that and founding a city on a place where no one would find me.

I had a game in which Japan existed as a 1-galley nation for more than a thousand years. In the industrial age they started earning money by making military alliances with (clueless) civs who were at war. So I sold them sanitation and industrialization.

It was fun thinking about that little galley floating around with a hospital and a factory.

@dn pacem - I love that story.

@sweetchuck - Cathy is Catherine of Russia. She always demands something, declares and then gets wiped out. I always bring in the dogpile against her when it can be done.

OK - I thought you might have meant the Carthinagins (sp?).

Cathy, monty, etc come from civ4, wherein you don't choose nation for skills (like industr. and agi. etc.) but leader, so instead of Russia beated America, it's Cathy beated Abe. Dumb IMO but if thats the way they like it, then be it so.

Say what? That makes absolutely no sense. Her name is Catherine. any Catherine I have ever known is called Cathy. I have been playing Civ for probably almost as long as you have been alive (since 1991 at least) I have been referring to the leaders by their names for all of that time.

If you had read a few of the various legendary games, you might know a little more about the naming conventions used here.

Just a quick note ...that I have never so much as seen a demo of Civ4 so I am most definitely not following anything from that game. I sometimes wonder how DUMB gets defined by some people???? You seem to have a natural affinity for insulting people. Is that from Civ4 as well?

Dipstick!!!!

Sorry, I have natural skill to insult people, I did not mean it like an insult. And I did mention, it is "dumb" in my personal opinion, I am not forcing my opinion/belief to anyone, just stating it... Sorry, once again.

Selling one civ on a less developed continent all your techs and watch them beat the crud out of everyone else.

Uhh, just for the record, I don't think he was insulting you, darski. He is saying it is dumb in Civ4 how the game is leaders vs leaders (such as Cathy vs Abe) rather than nations vs. nations. He wasn't saying that calling Catherine, "Cathy", was a dumb thing to do.

There is a history there so I am quick on the draw when he says some things.

I don't appreciate being called a cheater - especially for having a lucky shot with a suicide galley.
