A cure for HIV?

the funniest thing is: my biology teacher said, in 1994, that the way to go after HIV was going after RT - it was just so hellishly difficult!

A promising method since reverse transcriptase is absolutely essential for the functioning of a virus. (Going for the protein hull is often futile since it changes it appearance with every mutation).
However: maybe the targeted protein sequence is not essential for the RT to work (mutations of it would be functioning without the cure recognising the new RT) or the sequence is also existant in another human built protein (cross sensitivity). Further tests will show.

I understan 0 of medicine, but all this looks great
One question how did AIDS appeard?

I'm no expert, but if I'm not mistaken, it's not absolutely certain how HIV entered the human population, but the leading theory is that it started with an African tribe eating some infected monkeys, and then it spread from there through sex.

Let's hope this is true, although sadly I'm not expecting any big surprises.

Hmmmmmmmm.......
Washington, DC - President Bush announced today that his administration will not be funding research for this HIV vaccinne and will withdraw funding from those organizations who administer it. He harshly criticized the researchers for encouraging pre-marital and teenage sex by reducing the risk of acquiring sexually-transmitted diseases. Instead he will sign a bill to grant increased funding to Christian charities as part of his new faith-based initiave. He stated that the administration has always maintained sexual abstinence as the most effective form of HIV prevention.

I recall reading somewhere that another theory is that AIDS entered the human population through instances of bestiality in Africa.

One would hope. It is rather typo ridden, no?
There are no typos, though there are some gramatical errors. I doubt that it's real. Plus, it says "this" HIV vaccine, rather than referring to it by name.

Jeff Yu: I hope that Bush quote is a joke?

Yes, it's a joke. I thought people would have spotted it more easily than that.

I am a bit skeptical since the problem is becoming larger than the virus and the disease itself.

AIDS patients suffer from more than the disease in most Third World Countries where AIDS is rampant. Social stigma, ostracism and prejudice hurt them far more than the disease, and a vaccine may perhaps just alleviate the pain from the disease...if they can afford it.

All the same, it may be helpful in at least limiting the spread of the disease.

I have several times thought something a(n) (often bad) joke and it turned out true with the Bush admin.
