Download K-mod 1.27
To install, download and unzip into mods folder. This is typically in your documents---> beyond the sword---> mods.
To create a shortcut to the mod (you don't have to; could just double click on my save but if you wanna play normally...), you'll need to make a shortcut from your BTS exe file and add /mod="K-Mod" to the end of the target for the shortcut. I can't explain it well so here's some pics. Go into your folder where civ 4 is installed and go into the beyond the sword folder.
Most of BUG mod is available here but not enabled by default. You need to open the menu and there will be a bug options below the regular options selection
Been testing out K-mod a bit more. The game performance, better ai and interface fixes are rapidly convincing me to play this over the base game even if I don't agree with some of the balance changes.
It's largely the same game, though I noted all the major changes I noted at the bottom.
Honestly, even at this Noble Level I can get hung up-- sure I can win but I sometimes lose cities and I rarely lose cities in regular BTS when i play on Monarch :S Maybe I'm not really good, but I find myself getting wrecked if I do the typical sleepwalk to lib and often have to do stuff I'd never consider doing in stock BTS-- getting construction, machinery and oy... medieval wars.
But I feel it's a really good challenge for those playing Noble/Prince and want to try something else. You can still rush your neighbor into oblivion since they don't start with archery but the others should be prepared better. So as I play and move up to a more challenging level, I'll post some of the more fun starts. I also want to see how people tackle them, even if it's those "LAWL I PISS ON MAP by 1 AD posts." :S You'll have to wait til I play a more challenging level! It's also perfect for people that complain about the AI being stoopid and needing all these bonuses. In the default BTS, it can be said that the AI never wins a game-- only the player can lose.
Here's a fairly easy one for you Noble/Prince guys but not so easy that you can play blindfolded like on stock BTS.
You can consider it some game you play before the biweekly Noble's club.
Settings: Noble, Pangea, No huts/events, Normal Speed, Normal Size-- as boring as it gets
Key balance changes I've observed in K-mod:
Great Lighthouse is hugely nerfed. It costs 300 (!?) Hammers
Stonehenge is forever
Rep is nerfed (High Upkeep)
State Property nerfed as it no longer reduces colony stuff
AP victory requires a minimum amount of full members
Serfdom gives farms + commerce but towns suffer
Vassalage reduces city maintenance
Eiffel Tower requires Mass Media
Attitude Averaging from vassals is abolished
The AI will go after you even if Friendly if it seeks to win dom/conquest
There is often no "we have enough on our hands now" warning
Environmentalism reduces unhealthiness which helps a lot more
Global Warming does not zap your tiles into desert immediately.
Spoiler how to setup k-mod :
