A is for Aztec

I think she missed a couple of civs back in the beginning, America and Arabia, which actually precede Aztecs, alphabetically.

I didn't miss them. I just announced here that I was doing this when I got to the Aztecs. I had already played those two.

I have the win screens to prove it

@criminimal... I play at wussy levels; usually warlord but occasionally Regent so I should be able to win all of the games. if I did lose a game I would have to play another game until I won. Winning isn't everything - it's the only thing.

Ok chalk Rome off the list and once again I am magnificent. Personally, I think my bell ringer is on steroids.:bounce:

It was a good game played on Regent but I had forgotten that I was supposed to play a NOW game. Well it was a domination win after clearing the planet of Xerxes and Toku. That alone deserves a Magnificent rating. The only Civ I did not ever go to war against was Joanie. We did a lot of wars together though. Ever notice that you get that fluttery feeling when a pink blob comes running toward your borders... ah good; it's only a worker.

Well next up is the Great and wonderful Catherine. I need to go drink some lemon juice so I will be properly nasty to play the game. The last time I played Catherine I won a cultural victory. :rotfl:

Cossacks give you something to look forward to in these games. ...nice units indeed.

well ... I don't list the games that I abandon. They could be seen as losses. I only report the games I play through. At this point that is 26... I think.

I am getting a little tired of playing Russia. i tried a couple of games on the weekend and ended up doing an uninstall/reinstall ... thre times. I spent the last 12 hours trying to play and having to tweak the graphics and finding where the advance unit buttons might be found... yeah I know -> preferences. ((( sigh)))

I just can't seem to get my head around playing as Russia. I think it is all the upset around the installs and trying to keep my incredibly beautiful silver interface. Well I will give it another try tomorrow. The last game I spen 5.5 hours on and it was like the famous bridge to nowhere. i could go in there an whoop some berzerker hinderbottoms but it just doesn't seem worth the effort at this point,

Tomorrow, I'll give it a fresh shot tomorrow.

Well I have completed the Russian game and got a cultural victory. somehow that seems funny to me. The science trait is nice and I did get a lot of help from those Goddyhuts.

Well 4 more to go. Spain is next and I am not looking forward to them. I had the worst time trying to play with them before I started this series.

Well ever onward.

Spanish, not a great civ. The Conquistador is a fun UU though

Put conquistadores in an army and pillage with it like crazy. If the AI gets tanks or attacks that army with cavalry units, then build an infantry/rifle/mechanized infantry army and use it to cover the conquistador army and pillage like crazy. Spain also makes an excellent choice for a 20k game.

Spain has been played. That conquistador is a waste of time. By the time you get it, there is nothing for it to do. it is no different than a regular explorer because it is facing cavs and might as well not pretend to have an attack/defense rating... what a joke that is. Every one of them died without any bother to the cavs. it was nice that they could re-capture my slaves but that isn't a whole lotta important when you are at war anyway. I lost track of my war acquisitions so I have a dom win for this. My Fsscreen failed me for the first time so I don't have the win notice. whatever... (((sigh)))

I did get two leaders from combat this game but I wasn't going to waste them on explorers. I had my Cav armies but only got to take one to Iro land because the Portuguese weren't actually trustworthy so one stayed home to mind the store.

Next up is Sumeria. I have played them before but I don't remember much about them. I keep confusing them with the Mayans for some reason... must be the blue

Sumeria is a good all-around tribe. The Enkidu isn't very exciting, but the Ag/Sci traits are good for just about any victory condition. I think they're on of the best for 100K cultural victories, if you like cultural victories.

Don't use enkidus against AI enemies, or you'll get a disgustingly early GA. Otherwise, the Ag gets you faster growth, the Sci gets you cheap libraries and free tech at each age change. Overall, the Sumerians are near first-tier, the weak UU is the only thing that handicaps them. Prepare to win....

Well that was quick. 10 hours to a domination victory. I was a little ticked at my pangaea map that had one major continent and 5 other continents of varying sizes. The yankees got an island to themselves and did not even know writing when I found them with my galley.

I did get my GA in 540 BC because the Ports (may they rest in peace) declared war and attacked a city that was defended by an EW. They are a nice unit and there is something to be said for a big boost early on. it set my finances for a goodly bit of the game so it all worked out.

I don't think they compare to the Mayans when it comes to rabbit-y breeding but they sure were good at it. I had *Ur down to an easy 6 turn EW/Settler pair and just settled everywhere. The Mongols bought into the Ports lying propaganda (may they also rest in peace  ) and it was nice to have them declare on me. They had nothing and I had swords. Well they did have that nice little horsey icon that I rather did want and was going to steal with a settler anyway but that didn't happen after the declaration.

it was a great game and over quickly - just what I like. Oh yeah, the Celts got a little uppity and that is how I got my domination victory. Well I had already "adopted" 5 of their best cities but who's counting.

Next up will be my Berserkers. I did play one of the possible starts for the Rod=01 game with the Vikes and they were a decent Civ to play. Guess I could go back to continents but when you do that it takes forever to get back on track for pangaea.

oh well enough Civ for one day.

I don't think you understand how armies work all too well. The AI only will attack an army if 1) they're "desperate" or 2) they can defeat it with a single unit (like a tank versus a spear army). The upshot comes as that they won't attack something like a conquistador with a knight (and probably not a cavalry unit, but I'd have to test that). On top of this an army has extra movement points. This means that a conquistador army has massive pillaging power in any direction, since 1) the AI won't attack it and 2) it has extra movement beyond its natural 6 squares per turn. If you have a defensive army (like an infantry army) to cover it, it still has massive pillaging just not so much in one direction, but in a decent radius. They also retreat if attacked by an infantry (non-fast) type unit. Some people have actually thought the conquistador "broken".

I get that. I don't think you get the fact that I don't get armies. I have played games with a military Civ and the HE built and I got exactly 1, count 'em O-N-E army. Granted, I did get two in this game but I needed attack more than I needed pillaging.

Actually, I had just built the military academy when I won the war and had an army in the works.

Both my armies were cavs so that tells you when I got them. I did not get any armies in the first war with the Persians or the war against the Dutch. I got one in the last war with the Persians then the second came from the war against the Iros where I was able to build some Conquistadors and ship them over.
