A matter of avatars

With storrage capacity no longer an issue, and especially with the holidays upon us, why not give CFC bigger avatars? Not too big, but surely there is room for one or two extra kb, as well as a few extra rows and collumns.

What say ye, Thunderfall, who art in Civven?

Well, the avatar are pretty fine as they are. Sure, I'd like a bigger pic, but it'd be annoying. Each thread wuold take up more pages of less content. I just don't think it's necessary. We're lucky we get avatars at all and the size that we are allowed. I say leave it be, but that's just me.

Well, slightly bigger will not make the page load slower.

Why not make it 100x100 pixels? That's about the size of the sig limit anyways, so I doubt it will make it more distracting.

When there are 20 different avatars in a thread page which are all 2kb bigger this will result in 8 seconds more loading time per page.

100x100 seems a little big to me. 90x90 wouldn't be bad

I have dial-up and I wouldn't mind bigger avatars. The limit at Gamecatcher is 120x120 and that works fine. And if you don't like it? Well then you can turn them off in the cp.

I like avatars, but I don't really want them any bigger. Right now, they are a good visual cue as to the identity of the poster: Small, unobtrusive, yet distinct (unless a couple of people have the same "standard avatar ).

The ones at GC I find large enough to be obtrusive. Another reason I don't visit there often....

I don't like the huge GC avatars, but I think that increasing the limit to 80x80 or perhaps 90x90 would be good, especially because I will have to fit a Christmas hat on my already nearly 65-pixel tall stickman.

If you want big avatars, use those C3C avatars. They are 90x90.

A 80x80 or 90x90 will not be intrusive at all since the minimum size of a post window allows some extra space. Also, 1-2 extra kb should really not matter, even with dial-up.

Edit: Just seen Thunderfall's post... Would it be possible to have big custom avatars?

Is it too much to ask that you could find a 65x65- pixel pic you like? I see almost everyone has, anyway...
