Here is a new map of Europe. [ptw] & [c3c]

What ??!!?!! There's already thousands of really great map of Europe Marla ! Thanx but we have all we need...

Well... that is true. But actually, as a player, I think diversity can't be a bad thing :D. That's the reason why I've made my own.

What's different ?

  • It's a standard map (116x94). If the map isn't bigger, it's to be able to play untill the end of the game. I know that since the world map I've made (2 years ago) was way too big.
  • The map is focused on the European Peninsula. On the North, we don't see the top of Norway and Russia. On the East, the map is stopped way before the Ural. On the south, we don't see at all Egypt or the Near East.

I've done it so for gaming interest reasons. First, a bigger map would give too much power to Russia. Second, I didn't want to waste spaces with unuseful cities in Tundra or Desert.
  • All civilizations have been edited to be European. The new civilizations are detailed in next post. These new civilizations are Scotland, Poland, Romania, Portugal, Morocco, Hungary, Austria, Netherlands, Lithuania, Ireland, Ukraine, Finland, Serbia.

Can I download it ?

Here are the latest Conquest versions :
For those who have only Play the world and not Conquest, a PTW version is still available below. Unfortunately, there's no Vanilla Civ version and I don't know how I could make one.

If you want to translate map datas in your own language. You're gladly welcomed to do so. There's not much to do, simply restore rules (so that they become in your language) and then edit the civilizations. :)

The file below includes :
- A Play the World version
- A Conquests version *Outdated*

NB : If the file you download is called "Attachment" and can't be read. Just add ".zip" at the end of the name file

Below you can see the map if we remove the perspective. I’ve added the name and locations of the 24 civilizations.

So far so good! (playing as france).

One question, how come france doesnt start with wines in Paris?

Looks very nice:thanx:

I thought you had retired from civ3 a long time ago.

btw you should´nt have the \ in the download name, thats why it only comes as attachedment;)

One question, how come france doesnt start with wines in Paris?
Well, I've decided to place french wines where are located the main vineyards in reality. Which means Bordeaux (4), Burgundy (3), Côtes du Rhône (2), Savoy (1), Côtes de Loire (1). Ok, that makes a lot. The thing is that I wanted to see enough of each ressources for a game with a lot of players. So there's many of each ressources.

there's way too much tundra in Sweden, Finland and Russia. Game balance reasons?
Well, there's several reasons for that. The first is game balance, that's true. It was a bit unfair to let Russia alone with so much grassland. However, I realized in a game Russia is not so lonely once you play with Lithuania and Ukraine ! The second reason is oil, I needed place with oil and there's not so many of them in Europe. By the way, I've just corrected the map because I had forgotten to add oil around the North Sea before. Now it's done. The third reason is simply because I was bored to see so many grassland :D , I like when there's more diversity in the tiles of a region.

Thanx Yoda. It's been changed. :)

I thought you had retired from civ3 a long time ago.
I did have retired a long time ago ! However, once in a while, I still play to Civ3. And that's why I'm back ! :D

Would you mind if I made my own version of the map and posted it?

Would you mind if I made my own version of the map and posted it?
Well, it depends, what do you want to change ? You don't like better that we work together ? :love2:

Well a few things here and there. Also I would like to make a version where Russia has navigateable rivers, for a scenario.

I could make my own version, then post it here, and you could be the judge?

Bloody outstanding!

PS. Now that you're done with this map, could you start working on a new (or updated) world map? *pretty please* :D

Btw, how about replacing Mannerheim with (president) Kekkonen as the Finnish leader? He was our longest ruling president, and the most powerful one too. Not a very important thing (actually not at all important), but just a thought. :)

One more thing: Could you please change the resources so that they are located more realistically? It's just hilarious to find uranium (but no coal) in Sweden and oil (but no iron or aluminium) in Finland. Also the amount of resources seems rather big, at least for the nations that the map is designed to be played with.

To Yoda Power : You can change the map to make of it a scenario. There's absolutely no problem. However, if it' to re-post it in here, I think it's better to work together... It would be silly to try to improve two versions of the same map in the same time.

To Exel (First message) : You're finn, and I'm not ! If you think president Kekkonen is better than Mannerheim as leader of Finland, then he will be the leader of Finland. :)

Sorry, I'm not planning to re-do a world map for now. I take a lot of time to make a map (I'm slow).

To Padma : The map has been designed for Civilization 3 : Play the World.

To Exel (Second message) : Well, I've checked on maps and it's been said there was uranium there. That's why I've put uranium there.

About oil, find me 20 oil spots in Europe and we'll talk about it again :). I've put so much oil in the North Sea and in Algeria, I had to put oil somewhere else.

If there's neither iron nor aluminium in Finland, it's simply because there's no hills there ! :D Alright, I got it... I will add two hills to put a bit of Iron and Aluminium. :)

There's something more hilarious than that by the way. Central Europe is filled with rubber ! But the issue in here is the same, where in Europe can we find rubber... ;)

About the amount of ressources, the map can handle with 24 civilizations... however, it's deeply recommanded to play without more than 16 civs (it's only a standard map). That's why I couldn't put less than 20 of each ressource in the map.

To the Last Conformist : Thanx for the support ! Yes there is uranium in Sweden ! It's one of the few countries in Europe where there's uranium ! And about plains, that's a good idea. I didn't thought of it on the first time because I consider plains to be a terrain for hot weather. However, Why not ! I'll try to do a mix. :crazyeye:

I've just changed Finland. In the new downloadable file, President Kekkonen is leading a Finland where there's Iron and Aluminium.

About plains... I can't change it so fast... cause if I put plains in Sweden, then I should put plains in Finland, in Russia and in baltic countries.

By the way, I would need your help to find great leaders for the new civs. If someone is volunteer, I would be really thankful. :)

Looks like alot of fun Marla :goodjob: I will have to try it.

Good point. Though now I begun making an altered version, so could I just email/pm it to you? Then you can decide which of my ideas you like? It might seem weird, but I think it will be faster than starting a big discussion;)
