A Plan for the Long Run

I think we should have some sort of plan to what kind of victory we are going to go for. I'm think space is doable if we have aluminum, and good enough production in cities off our home island.

Oh, and we should name every important island we see, for easier typing.

Essentially, the answer is to plan for conquest or domination.

Any form of diplo is almost literally impossible, so that's out.

Any specific planning for space won't come into play for 200+ turns. If we're playing for conquest/dom anyway then having the biggest empire, most tech etc... is already what we'd need for space, if it came down to it.

Culture could be helped by some early planning; getting wonders, religions, etc... in the right places to passively build up. It is somewhat feasible that if this came down to a late game culture would be easier than space; holding a home island that couldn't be easily invaded and not having to get all the space tech etc... Just build purely defensively/be ready to take on the remaining teams until the culture victory comes in. The problem is weighing the investment/risks; if we could just win flat out by conquering culture isn't needed so much. Plus we don't want tells to other teams on what we're doing and it'd be worst to get dogpiled way too early for the silly reason that we have more culture.

So in the end it just comes down to the same answer most MP games see; our goal right now is just to take out other civs/become the most powerful if we can. A naval based map does make it more likely the game will go to later eras but still some civs would be eliminated/severely weakened by then and we want to come out on top.

I do agree with naming islands if there get to be a lot of them (more than just some "home island" and main continent). Would be both fun and convenient.

+1 Earthling

As we are not playing AI's whom don't care if they lose we face a different set of priorities. Even if we choose to chase down a Spaceship / Cultural victory we face the inevitability of war. It may just be the case that we need a resource or the parallels of another production city.

Diplomacy will only be a veil which conceals the knife ;-)

I'll happily sit around and name the islands and the major mountains and so on and so forth :P

How about: Quantum, Singularity, Resonance, Horizon, Cosmos, Axiom, Etheric or Phlogiston? I particularly like the first because of the Q theme :)

How about RegentMangrad? :mischief:

But seriously, out of your suggestions Arakhor, I like Resonance, Horizon, Axiom, Etheric, and Phlogiston. When it comes to city names for me personally, I prefer ones that sound city-like. I do not like seeing cities called "The Toy Box" or "Oreos."

But that's merely my opinion. :)

Yeah, I should also say those are great. I particarly love Phlogiston - cool word anyway but we could do something funny like imply it's really Phlogistown/alter the way the word would be expected to be pronounced. Resonance is an all around good sounding name, as is Horizon; the others are great as we go on to fit a pattern.

So were like sci-fi sounding civ? I guess we are. How aboot Phlasia?

We're the Q! Haven't you ever watched Star Trek: The Next Generation? :)

No, I haven't

You have blown my mind =).

I mean, I'd be kind of surprised if a random person I met hadn't seen star trek, but someone nerdy enough to participate in a multiplayer game of civilization? Perhaps I live a sheltered life.

Perhaps TNG was before his time.

I remember watching all the episodes as a kid when they first aired... uh-oh, did I just date myself? :cringe:

Well, I was old enough to, theoretically, but instead I have them all on DVD now :)

I'm not incredibly nerdy. I'm 14 also, so that doesn't help. My dad loved it though.

SOme reading on TVTropes leads me to belive Q is awesome.

Ah well, you're a TV Troper - your nerdiness will inevitably rise and rapidly so :)

I quit the trope a while ago, now I just visit occasionally.

We should get back on topic. Or maybe we shouldn't. WHo cares, there isn't much to talk about at this time of the game.

It's a little more leinent in these private forums, as we're "team bonding," so as long as we're not just spamming back and forth, we should be okay. :)
