Hello. I have been playing Civ 3 mods and Civ 4 mods, and I have always had this burning question. The question is, how do modders know what version number to call their mods? For example sometime modders post versions that increase only .01, while sometimes it increases .8 or .9. I understand that the higher the version increase the more stuff was done, but how do you know exactly what number to call it?

Version 1.00 tends to mean the first full version. I tend to step up in steps of 0.01 whenever I feel I have changed enough for the version to be worth of stepping up. I may speed up/slow down this process if I'm getting towards version 1.00 too quickly...

It's all fairly arbitary.

I use a similar method to TGA.

Version 1.0 means release.
I step by 0.1 for each full rebuild of the code.
I add a "b" to the end for betas.

That's about it really.

I see, this makes sense, but sometimes modders go past 1.00. I suppose this means a sequal usually.
