A quick practice session with trading and bargaining

Hi Ronald,

Hopefully, we would have a lot more sample to work with after we are done with the GOTM20.:) So far in this thread, we have seen just one specific trading example. I'm sure it would be very interesting to see the complete tradings of the entire game, especially at Deity level. Since I have been keepping very good detail of all my trading sessions so far in my GOTM20, if you or any one like to see it, I would definitely post it in the last spoiler thread of the GOTM20.

Moonsinger, I for one would definitely like to see it in the last spoiler thread. :goodjob: on what's already been posted- I'm trying to keep better records myself, for you and the other trading vets to pick apart in spoiler 1 once I get my act together and organize my notes.

Thank you for this thread, and thank you in advance for sharing your insights on trading for GOTM 20 when time comes for the last spoiler thread!

This thread is absolutely fantastic. Another thing I find was missing from my bag of Civ tricks: Settler factories, 40 turn/1 scientist research gambits, initiating dogpiles during wars. This is right up there with those things. Funnily enough all stuff learned from this site.

Think I've finally managed to wean myself away from all (well nearly...) of my bad CIV2/SMAC habits now... I remember the bad old days of 100% science sliders and rarely trading anything to anyone. :)

Finally able to survive and even prosper for the first time in a deity game (GOTM 20), even if I did have a few little treasure chest shaped bonuses!

Found it makes the game more entertaining, interesting and it just seems to play much smoother.

Thank you all very much!

I think a separate GOTM20 spoiler just comparing notes on trading might very useful at the end of June. I've already reported specifically on my trading turns in spoiler 1 and will continue to keep careful notes for as long as I can stay in the game.

This thread made a huge difference to my sense of being in control during the tech race, and I'm looking forward to the additional dimensions as lux and resource trading get under way.

Thank you.

Good idea! I will definitely ask Cracker to open up a special trading thread at the end of June so that we can compare our notes on trading in GOTM20.

//Edit: AlanH, I'm sorry. I don't think I have time to host another trading thread (because between now until August, I must try to finish a project for work that I have been working for the last three years and August is just around the corner:(). Therefore, I posted my result in the Spoiler #4 thread.

I just post my complete tradings and all business dealings for my GOTM20 in the second page of "Spoiler4* - Gotm20-Spain - End Game Submitted" thread. Please remember that you must complete the GOTM20 in order to qualify for that thread.

@Moonsinger: I wish you luck with your August deadline. Isn't RL a drag!

You've already done more than enough to improve my game, and I hope to see you in Spoiler 4 with a tale to tell, one way or another. I'm sure we'll all enjoy comparing notes on the GOTM20 trading floor in that thread.

A bit belated but I gave this a try based on a recommendation I got in the GOTM20 spoiler thread 1....where I begged for guidance after falling way way way behind in tech.

I did 21 trades (can't decide if the 21st was worth it though)

1) 32g to India for Contact with Babs
2) 202g to Zulu for Lit
3) 475g + WM + Lit to English for TM + Map Making
4) WM + Lit to Rome for WM + Contact with Greeks + Philosophy
5) Horse Riding + Myst + IW to Greeks for WM + 50g
6) WM to India for WM + Poly + 3g
7) TM to Egypt for WM
8) WM to India for 20g
9) WM to Japan for WM + 1g
10) WM + Contact with Greeks to Zulu for Math + WM + 158g
11) WM to Rome for WM + CoL
12) Peace + WM to England for Peace + WM + 123g
13) Peace + TM to Babs for Peace + WM
14) WM to England for 59g
15) TM to Russia for WM + 21g
16) Peace + WM to Persia for WM + 39g
17) WM to England for 34g
18) Peace to Zulu for Peace + 44g
19) RoPassage to England for RoPassage + 75g (they're so far away....not getting there in 20 turns)
20) WM to India for WM + 9g

and the questionable last trade:
21) Math to England for 204g

At the end I had:
906g + 26gpt
All Maps
RoP with England

Tech situation:
parity with England (was it worth 204 to give them Math? not sure)
+5 techs over Japan
+4 techs over India
+2 techs over Rome
+6 techs over Egypt
+2 techs over Persia
+3 techs over Zulu
+5 techs over Rome
+3 techs over Babs
+6 techs over Greeks

Greeks have no contact with: Japan, India, Egypt, Persia, Russia

Edit: noone had any gold except England who had 53g left.

I think I could have improved this by trading Peace to get contact with the Babs and maybe Phil. Might have saved me some gold (probably not much), kept the Zulu and the Romans from contact with the Greeks if I did it right, and kept Lit from the Romans. Not a huge difference, but every little bit helps I suppose.

Also screwed up #16. Didn't have to renegotiate peace to get deal from Persians.
