A Tale about Balseraph

QES...Are you sure you know what 'lest' means? I don't think it means what you think it means.

Lest in this sense means "in case of" or "in order that"
I was implying the negative without actually stating it. So basically i was saying "to avoid becoming" but i wanted it more subtle, so i went with Lest. I do know what it means, and i didnt use it the "most" properly I could, but i was hoping the reader would infer the negative without the need for it. CLEARLY that was a mistake :P.

Actually, QES, 'lest' means the negative, in and of itself. "So that not."

Thus, your two statements using 'lest' are, altogether, half correct.

"So that I'm not a voyeur, im taking my thoughts elsewhere." - Correct usage.

"Therefore i share my misery shat that it doesn't affect you and cures my own." - Incorrect usage. In fact, this usage of 'lest' means the exact opposite of what you meant, unless your intent was to make a statement that makes no sense.

Indeed, I do know what it means, but you put better than I. The negative, was half used in my statement, and i Did recognize that. Commonly i use it like "I'm going to bring an umbrella, lest it rains." Or to that effect, which is the most proper usage. I should know better than to play with words, as there are clever people out there who will catch my indiscressions.

I suppose this would be a bad time to tell you the proper spelling of indiscretion? ;)

Typing fast often supercedes my will to make sure my spelling is correct. And i didnt know we had an official of the Grammar Beurou with us.
