A Tank for Every Civ in BTS

I was just wondering if the fighter (or bomber) for every civ in BtS was still a go or not?

Yup, still a go. I'm working on more of a mix at this point, trying to fill in some gaps for fighters, bombers, and gunships. I don't think I'll wait to release one big pack like I did here, I'll probably release each unit separately.

Cool, well if that's the case could you put them out for civs that tend not to have modern units made for them first? Like the Celts, Native Americans etc.?

That's exactly what I plan to do. There's a ton of units out there for the major civs - they'll probably get done at the same time as the more minor civs. Just look at the former USSR - their stuff is everywhere, and I'm already planning on making some redos of older units of mine (I'm working on the BRDM right now - for Ethiopia and Sumer). I can easily make a skin for Russia/USSR along the way. I have a feeling civs that have equipment that gets used all over the place will get taken care of along the way.

I am looking forward to some of the more exotic units though. There are already so many aircraft I'm thinking of doing up some more ground units. The newer Korean (South) armor is pretty cool, as are some of the different AAA systems that are out there.

How do you install?

Hey Smitty, I was just wondering why you chose to use the Vickers 6-ton as the Netherlands tank in this pack?

Yes, I am just getting around to putting these in my mod. I noticed at the Vickers 6-ton Wikipedia Article it doesn't mention their use by the Netherlands (well, to be fair I just looked at the list of countries that used it). Are there any other potential Nederlander tanks I could use or do you think this is really appropriate for them?

Thanks.

You're right about the 6-Ton Vickers not being the most accurate tank for the Dutch. I chose to go with it because as far as tanks go, it was the closest I could find. They did have a good number of Vickers Light Tanks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_tanks_of_the_United_Kingdom), which is where I got the paint scheme from. I figured since they at least had a good stock of Vickers tanks, no one would care that I took a little license and used the 6-ton instead. Other than the Vickers, all I could find for the Dutch were the too-common M3 Stuart and M4 Sherman, which I tried to only use where I had too. Those things where used so often, I wanted a bit more variety.

Any chance, we could look at doing an Early Fighter, Early Bomber of WWI tech for most nations. Also Stealth Bomber should be separate from the Jet Bomber. Add the Radome to the top of the AH-64 and you have the AH-64D Apache Longbow which is still a better helicopter. They put the same technology into the A, B, Cs and are now calling them Longbows but the truth is that the real Longbow has a Radome on top... For Russia, Hokum is used more as a Gunship and is in a better class than the Hind. The Hind is a Transport/Gunship and very big and bulky.

I'm just wondering what the purpose of these suggestions is? I know that mostly people who play modern war-fare type mods have a need for modern units, and that usually means specific renditions of them. But if the project is a tank for every civ in BtS what would be the point of making such specific styled units?

I guess what I'm saying is, why would he make different styles like that because it isn't as if there is going to be a mod that spans the era of modern warfare that includes a civ like Sumeria.

Some of us are not fond of having everything generic. Also I think that Civilization IV BTS does tend to gloss over some historically important things. You get flight and straight away you are at WWII era flight. Same with tanks. I really support this idea and hope that Snafusmith goes on to edit other units. These would be very useful if they could be worked out so they came in a modular format, maybe as well as the usual format. I just hope for an easier addition process that way for a whole pile of units.

Also with planes, I think there was a promotion somewhere for Napalm which might be worth including if you can find it....

Agreed, I would certainly welcome WW1 tanks, fighter and bombers (and even halftracks), but for now the regular units are enough for Snafusmith to work his way through (and he has some good units for WW1 in the download section already, 'just' not for all civs).

I can see where you guys are coming from, but I doubt if I'll get there anytime soon. Right now I want to focus on the units that everyone can use, and then if there's time work on the others.

As for the WW1 tanks, fighters and bombers, it's hard to believe but I've pretty much made everything that there is. Sure, there's the occasional very obscure one out there, but the vast majority are done. The biggest hole right now in units is still in WW2 and the cold war/modern times. That's why I've chosen to focus on those first.

Don't expect to get any modular units w/ XML from me - I hate doing XML and don't want to spend the time to learn how the modular system works. Adding a new unit into the game is about the easiest thing there is, I expect people can manage.

Next down the pike will be the Mi24 Hind (Soviet gunship), with about 5-6 different skins for it. The model and several versions/skins are done, I just have a couple different civs to work on and then animate. After that I'll probably finish up the Soviet Mobile SAM SA-9 'Gaskin' for a couple civs. If not the Gaskin, I'll be releasing the Soviet Mobile Artillery 2S1 'Gvozdika.' Don't get the idea I'm working on finishing the Soviets first - on the contrary, most of the Russian unit will not be these. I'm working on the above units because they are incredibly common, and can be used for multiple civs.

Here's a preview of the Babylon (Iraq) version of the Mi-24 Hind:

Looks really nice! For a few of the civs, i.e. those that don't necessarily have a nation they "belong to" right now (like the celts for instance) could you use/make what-if roundels and insignias? I can help you if you need some ideas. Here's an idea for the Mayans, as an example, it is their Sky God symbol and I think it would make a nice roundel...

In fact here is one I use/whipped up for the celts.

I doubt it too and understand your rationale, there certainly is enough to do for all the regular units already.

Ok, so this basically just means we need to reskin whichever way we please and distribute them among the missing civs (since they did not have any such units anyway, we cannot screw up there really ;) )

Yep, I'd much rather have you focus on units too :D

Looks good, looking forward to it :goodjob:
