A Thread to discuss the evolution of "Other Games".

Over time games come and go in their importance. Some deserve their own section of the forum, others do not. This thread is for the creation of a better "Other Games" section of the Forum. One which will promote the active games, and tidy up those that cease to be needed.

Since I've been informed that this is the thread for discussion of all merging/splitting of forums, I'm reposting here.

I really don't care about the postcount thing, but I think that Forum Games should be split. If you don't want to go through the hassle of separating threads that's fine; I volunteer myself for that job. NotW and Mafia would greatly benefit from getting away from all the clutter and spam games.

Spoiler :
I had a list of all the threads here, but I can't access it because the thread I posted it in is locked....

While we're on the subject of forum splitting, I personally think that the Other Games forum should be totally reorganized like so:
  • Alpha Centauri - There is still enough activity here to warrant having its own subforum, and I acknowledge this.
  • Never Ending Stories - Plenty of traffic already to have its own subforum.
  • Forum Games - Does it really need to be a subforum of All Other Games? It gets more traffic than the Spore, Sid Meier's Railroads!, Galactic Civilizations II, Rise of Nations, Total War, and Chess subforums all combined. Surely that is justification enough for Forum Games to be a direct subforum of the Other Games forum.
    • Spam Games - Beat the Pic Above You, Good Wish Bad Wish, Name the City, etc. Postcount is disabled here, obviously.
    • Non-Spam Games - Mafia, Night of the Werewolves, Lazy NES. Postcount can be either enabled or disabled here, I couldn't care less. Enabling it would case my PC to skyrocket, which I'm not so sure I want, it's already high enough.
  • All Other Games - Combination of everything else currently in the Other Games forum.

Isn't that reasonable?

That seems reasonable to me.

agreed, it was a truly horrible game. this is a site dedicated to the civilization series, not spore. and whilst some games like the TW series or Sid Meiers Pirates! or SMAC at least have either some resemblance to the gameplay of civ, or are made by SM, spore fits into neither of those categories. it is not a turn based strategy game, nor is it even strategy for that matter in all honesty. It is hard to see why it deserves its own section.

YES! Move Spore....:mischief:

I agree. If it had lived up to half the hype a subforum could have been appropriate to save the games forum from some traffic, though, and maybe it's better to have that as early as possible when a lot of posts will be made.

I was almost sure I'd buy it until I heard of the copy protection.

It needs to be taken down.

Yes. Maybe give Paradox Games its own forum instead.

It really doesn't need its own forum, hell the total war games hardly do too.

Spore definitely doesn't need its own forum, just don't flood the first few pages of Other Games with spore threads please.

Considering how old the threads are, I am sure most would dissapear.

This comes up every couple of months, but i just can't see the reason for it. As it stands, keeping the Paradox stuff in AoG benefits both the Paradox crowd and the forum.
The Paradox threads get much more exposure and activity than they would in their own forum, and the forum gets much needed activity.

Were it not for the AARs by Kan and others in AoG, those games would likely never have become popular here in the first place, because people wouldn't have seen them.

And as Scampi pointed out, the Total War forum isn't a huge success. Unless we get to the point where Paradox threads crowd out other active threads in AoG (or are being crowed out by other active threads), there is little reason to split the forum.

I think Total War should be integrated back into AoG, for reasons others have already pointed out.

Other Games:
Alpha Centauri
Never Ending Stories
Forum Games: Spam Games and non spam games separated
All Other games: Spore, Sid Meier's Railroads!, Galactic Civilizations II, Rise of Nations, Total War, Chess etc.

I agree with Zack's post, but think both game forums should be no postcount, if only because I'd rather not see moderating get any stricter than it already is, and stricter moding for "Non-spam" would occur.

There are several suitable gamers who could mod it?
