A very Special unit request....

Cool. I remember seeing on T.V. an Egytian heiroglyphic that looked like a modern helicopter... also, if you're into conspiriacies/aliens in ancient times/great flood stuff (all mentioned by Hikaro, I believe, ;)) read the Domain trilogy by Steve Alten.

Hikaro, care to give a link of that? ;)

It wasn't off the internet, but from some historia obscura book one of my friends in the Navy has.... Unfortunately he and his book are in Yokohama, and I can't remember the title of it off-hand. I'll ask him about it... Still, the fact that just about every culture from around the world has tales of a great flood of some kind about 10000 years ago is interesting in and of itself.... That, and there is proof of the existence of Noah's Ark, however, you have to have a pretty high security clearance to see it... I might be saying too much already, so I'll just shut up.

In the Greek classic ("Metamorphosis" iirc) you can read the shortstory called "The Flight of Phaeton" who in myth was the son of Helios, the Sun. He wanted so badly to "drive his father's chariot" that he snuck into it and flew off without permission. Seems Helios was the only one who could "control the mighty steeds who drove the chariot..."

The modern translation into English was done in the 19th century, iirc, when, again, the thought of a flying machine was considered absurd. The interior of Helios' chariot is described in a lot of detail, using terms familiar to a primitive bardic tradition.

"What's all these glowing lights? Must be jewels... an' what'll happen if I pull on this jewl-topped scepter? WHA???!! ..."

VRRRROOOOOOMMMMMMMM.......

ROARRRR.....

"What the heck?!! DAAAAAAD!!!"

It isn't a stretch to wonder if maybe Helios was trained by someone (or was someone himself) who arrived on Earth "from the Heavans..."

too bad there isn't an emoticon for scratching a beard... hm...

No, I happen to have the requisite security clearance and had the necesarry access when I was in the US Navy, and I was involved in certain military operations in the area that the Ark is supposed to have landed, and seen certain things that leave no doubt in my mind whatsoever that the biblical account of the Flood was true..... That's all I can and will say. Any further inquiries into this matter will get the "I can neither confirm nor deny" reply.

I have no "further inquiries" your honnor... for me it's just all too silly and in fact that doesn't interest me, I only wonder how intelligent people can believe these things and what good it brings to their lives...

Not as stupid as someone seeing incontovertible evidence proving the existence of the supernatural with their own eyes and saying, "Well, that can't be real since I don't believe in that kind of stuff so it never happened."

Sorry, Hik, I can't pass this up. I'll posit this though: there is a serious archeological theory that "the flood" was caused by an ice dam spanning the Straight of Gibraltar in the 1-10,000 BCE timespan. This theory has a lot of good tie-ins to the age of the Sphynx, which is indicated to be more than 10,000 years old, based on its erosion evidence.

Any "official" opinions on this theory?

Hm?

It's much more than a flood: I highly recommend Cataclysm!: Compelling Evidence of a Cosmic Catastrophe in 9500 B.C., it's based on well documented physical evidence and original sources are well cited. Definitely worth reading all 384 pages.

I'm not gonna let you slip outta this one, man: don't pull back your slight after saying it, like a wrestler who uses brass knuckles then tosses them to his trainer...

It takes a pretty huge world-view to include ET's and ancient flying machines. It isn't a sign of being a "crack-pot" conspiracy-theorist or anything, all it takes is the supreme effort of making that initial leap: conspiracies happen all the time, we do them in social situations, in political manoevrings, or any other activity that requires secrecy.

The prevailing thought on why UFOs are by default "unidentified" is that we humans reached a point where ETs felt we should be left alone... And if history can teach us anything, it's that they were probably right. We're better off without the general public knowing about the surgery Condaleeza Rice went through to look less like the alien she really is... (gawd I hope there's at least a chuckle out there...)

Course, Swoggy, Course. I think Flamand said he would.

Sez the man who asked for an Ancient Egypto-Aztec Suborbital Fighter in the first place. Speaking of which, there's a really cool movie from 1963 that you'll probably never see called "Kings of the Sun". When I was a kid I thought the story was about Egyptians, but it turns out it's about a plausible but short lived Mayan invasion of ancient N. America.

Yup, I already have a basic model but it is far from ready yet. Here is a small preview:

In Earth Made of Glass a similar plane used to fly the ambassador between the Tamil and Mayan colonies is apparently powered by tiny blue lights lining its control surfaces. While you might not want to do that exact effect, it would be cool to have a hint of some "unusual" propulsion system.
