A warning from a 'fanboi'

I believe the reason people are mad isn't just because they forget what it was like when Civ4 came out. I remember what it was like and yes there was bugs and problems with the interface.

The problem is that people always get upset when you TAKE THINGS AWAY from them without substituting them for something better.

This is why I always got excited for the next Civ title. There was ALWAYS something added/something enhanced/new things brought to the game with the inevitable graphics upgrades and etc.

I loved Civ4 from day 1 even with all the bugs. The reason? Because there were SO MANY new things to do that weren't in Civ3. The patches just perfected a game that at it's core was great.

With Civ5, I feel as though they've taken too many things out. I was expecting Civ 5 to bring even MORE to the table than Civ4. Boy was I disappointed.

I feel like if Civ3 was the current title, instead of getting Civ4, they released Civ2.

That's why people like sequels! MORE MORE MORE!!! Not less!

Civ4 had lots of great new things built in to it. Therefore, a few patches was all that was needed to really fine tune it.

With Civ5, I'm not at all optimistic that that will also happen here. It's my belief that if it wasn't in the launch version, it won't be patched later. Only the bugs and etc will be patched or tweaked. Those thinking they'll patch in religion/the other major concepts we miss at some point are going to be disappointed. You will likely have to buy an expansion pack for that to happen!

Yeah, I like the direction they have taken for the most part. I quit Civ 4 pretty fast because of the SoD garbage. I didn't even give any mods a try because the core mechanic was terrible. It just made for extremely boring battles. 1UPT and hexes just make for a much better, tactical gameplay.

I hate the decision to impose huge penalties on population and building new cities, though. While 30+ cities may be unwieldy in the late game, having 3-5 cities for most of the game is extremely limiting, too. Not to mention that most of the cities can't even come close to approaching the productivity of the capital.

Teching and production are obviously in a lousy balance with each other as well. You can barely make anything before the upgrade is already available.

Let me explain you, like my programming teacher used to say, like if you had 5 yrs old:

You hinted that some archetypical civ Iv pro felt like a superior player because it was armed with spreadsheets. I just pointed that your lack of spreadsheets didn't gave you any reason to feel superior either... so , in other words, bringing the "spreadsheets" ( like if every civ IV pro used them or like if some civ V pros will not use them as soon as someone makes one ) to the argument was moot at best ,and at worse denoted a elitist attitude from your side ( with your I mean the plural : you and the people that think like you seem to think ): "Spreadsheets? I don't need no stikin' spreadsheets ..."

See my point now? :p

You're completely misunderstanding his post. Just because somebody is refuting the argument that A > B doesn't mean he's claiming that B > A. He's merely claiming that A = B. You're jumping to unfounded conclusions.
