AA02: Catherine's Aggressive Adventures

I played in the morning instead.

Quite a set of uneventful turns. I stopped at Currency coming in.

Basically I spent time building axes, crushing Louis' "barbarian hordes" (we lose 2 axes and 1 archer in the process). At least the defenders in Orleans has been weakened, and he's likely in some bad war weariness now, as we're killed over a dozen of his units.

aa02uneventfulwj3.jpg

I also built roads to connect far-off cities to the front lines, saving time for axemen to get there, as well as more worker infrastructure.

I guess that means I'm up? I'll be able to play on Saturday so if anyone can grab it on Friday, by all means go ahead.

Good turns, Robo ~ this war certainly didn't turn out the way we wanted it. Let's take peace when we can and figure out what to do now. I'm *hoping* with our corner spot, as well as our aggressive Rexing, we may have a land edge on our immediate neighbors, so we should look to capitalize on that at a later era.

Hmm... I just played, why am I skipped, I think it was berserks who did. :D

BTW I have signs on some cities saying "On Avoid Growth", I set it that way due to unhappiness (mostly war-related unhappiness), please don't forget to let them grow after the war.

When i started, we had a lot of axes and not much else but are on the way to construction so we'll have cats soon. France won't offer much in the way of peace so i decide to use our superior number of axes and go for it anyway.

I took it to Orleans and took the city. Lost a few axes but thought that's what we're building them for anyway.

Civ4ScreenShot0054.jpg

After that, Loius sent a force at Novgorod so i took peace. It was a better offer by now anyway and we'll need cats to go any further. 10+ turns of peace to build the cats is worth it.

Civ4ScreenShot0055.jpg

I took peace with Carthage fairly early on. I don't even know where he is located and he's got some units in our territory that stop our workers doing things.

Not much of a deal but no point staying in war with him.

Civ4ScreenShot0053.jpg

Next up should keep an eye on the cities as we don't have very high happiness limits. Yaroslavl' should be whipped on the next turn as I've let it build up a few unhappy faces in anticipation of whipping. The growth was a bit faster than i thought and it's got 2  faces.

I also built a spy and he's in the french capital. We hadn't been putting any espionage points into France though so he can't do much yet. I've put all our points towards them for now so hopefully he can do something eventually when we want to declare again.

great turns Kikinit! good to see we could take Orleans ~ w/just an archer, sword and a chariot, i thought we could/should.

Let's work on infra now, and then head for paris. we may be able to get Monty in on the deal, too to finish Louis off.

Guys, I'll need a skip till next week - state exams coming up again (writing them again to better my grade) ...

d'oh ~ that makes me up ~ will look to get this tomorrow

another game i've held up ~

I played until Code of Laws came in, 385 ad.

I started off with a small bit of MM to either grow faster or not at all, and by the end, I MMed so that there was no growth as we’re at the happy cap in most cities.

I swapped Orleans build from a barracks to a library mainly for the culture at this point. I don’t see the city building many units, so I think a rax was a bit of :smoke: I also whipped the Coliseum in Yaroslavl’ to get rid of 2 unhappies and gain one :goodjob:

Because I was slowing growth, I built a fair few cottages to maintain no growth. We also should take advantage of all those trees at Moscow and chop our hearts out. I started it just a bit.

I merged the GG into ~ uh, the fish town :D since it’s got all those plains hills there.

I can see from our spy before he gets “stumbled upon” that we will need a few suicide cats to take paris. It had a sword, a couple archers and 3 axes, so a good softening, and our swords will cut through them.

Pacal came around wanting a trade
01.jpg

I said no, as this was the only tech anybody was willing to trade us.

Monty also came by:
02.jpg

Hmm, annoyed and wanting OBs? I said okay, just for the heck of it. He’s the only Buddhist in the game. There’s a jewish civ, and all the rest are hindu.

So, that’s what I do:
03.jpg

We had another vistor:
04.jpg

I said okay as Washington is alone in Judaism.

Good thing I did, too:
IBT:
Hannibal(Carthage) declares war on Washington(America)
Pacal II(Maya) declares war on Washington(America)

We got a poor event
05.jpg

But it doesn’t matter too much as we’re going to be at war again soon.
Shortly after the DoW, Pacal came by again:
06.jpg

I can see no downside, so AA02(Russia) declares war on Washington(America)

We have a settler done in about 4 turns for the deer/horse city in our SW, and we’ve got an army ready to invade on the next turn.

CoL is done, and I went with Metal Casting next, basically for the forges, but am not sure we don’t need something else more urgently.

Played a few turns, declared on France on the 1st.

We are (or at least were) the most powerful.

Captured Paris with the Stonehenge.

I haven't noticed this, only from the log
Montezuma(Aztec) declares war on Louis XIV(France)

Founded the last city
PAA02-8.jpg

Made this trade to make those happiness resources hooked up eventually, against WW
PAA02-9.jpg

Finally captured this city to cut his access to metal
PAA02-10.jpg

Whipped a few Courthouses to help economy, we may need a few Catas to continue the war if we want.
We have a GSpy in the capital ... what would be the best use of him? Merge?

Sorry, guys, I'm gonna be OOP for a couple of weeks.

I just had a RL medical mishap done to me personally by a doctor and had to be hospitalized for all of last week. I'm still on recovery now, so won't be able to do anything much except sleep, rest, and recover.

Again, sorry about this. Pholk, I'd understand if you replace me on the roster since I've only played once all this time. But if you decide to keep me on the roster, I'll let you know as soon as I can play again in a week or two latest.

@berserks:

Sorry to hear that. All the best wishes from 8,000 miles away for a speedy recovery :) !

@berserks:

OMG, that sucks! I really hope you can do something with that crappy doctor soon!

Looks like I'm up and I got the save, but I will hold back a couple of hours for advice.

1. GSpy: I vote for "settle". Anyone say GA?
2. Espionage: Where would we be shopping for techs?
3. Tech path: Civil Service?

Gah, saw the save. Now I'm confused. :D

I don't know what to do now... it's a dilemma!
BUILD CATAPULTS (we have just 4, hello!) vs BUILD ECONOMIC INFRASTRUCTURE

It's killing me! Gaaahhhhh...

Also about that spying thing, we seem to be in the tech lead (AGAIN)... making spying kinda useless except for stealing a laugh or two... hey, it's really fun giving a city 8 unhappy faces and 8 allergic faces at the same time. But I'd rather have free tech.

Of course we could steal some cheap tech from Louis or Pacal. Priesthood coses 244 to steal, and that's before shared religion and stationary spy, we already have 231 EP so we might actually be able to grab monotheism or even Aesthetics. It would be great if Louis actually went deep into the Aesthetics tech tree... (I can't tell...) so we steal aesthetics, make peace for free tech, then redeclare...

Since Pacal is financial, I vote that we focus our espoinage on him. And for a low-scoring guy, Washington doesn't seem too much backwards.

Will start playing after 26 hours.

I don't know what to do now... it's a dilemma!
BUILD CATAPULTS (we have just 4, hello!) vs BUILD ECONOMIC INFRASTRUCTURE
I had the same feeling
I voted for economy. 4 catapults are not very much, but we have a few nice CR swords, so sacrifice only 1 of them per city. The progress will be slow, but still. + Monty is helping us in the war.
On the other hand we are at the tech lead but with only 30% :science: rate, if we don't improve we'll fall behind.

Also about that spying thing, .... But I'd rather have free tech.
I prefer to see what the others are researching, especially before Liberalism.
Usually I don't steal techs just stockpile EPs.
I would settle, but it's just me.

Playing now.

Not much feedback but here's the plan:
1. I'll steal tech from Louis, since we're gonna grind him into the ground anyway, it's not much to see his research.
2. Settle G-Spy.
3. Economic infrastructure.

Pre-turn at 565AD:
1. Settle Great Spy
2. Starve Rostov for more hammers to build Courthouse faster.

...595AD
Churchill asks us to cancel with Monty, I agree.
Whip Courthouse in Rostov -> Catapult

...625AD
Joao adopts Hereditary rule.
I start a courthouse in the capital for more spying points.
Start moving army to Rheims, leaving an Axe and Spear in Lyons.

...670AD
We get a good event. I spend our money to get the most out of it.
aa061zx2.jpg

...685AD
After taking some time to level up our Catapults, we take Rheims with no losses whatsoever.
aa062dm1.jpg

We get another Great General, I move 'em to St. Pete's but don't settle him yet, I vote for Settle.

...745AD
Washington makes peace with Hannibal and Pacal.
Russian troops hardly break a sweat as they take Marseilles... again with no losses.
aa063bz9.jpg

Sitting Bull is backwards and doesn't have Calendar, so we grab a few cheap techs and coin for it.
aa064dp7.jpg

...775AD
I stop here with Metal Casting coming in. I wanna go Civil Service to save our economy, but no beakers invested yet.
We're still at war with Washington, but we can easily get Peace Treaty or Ceasefire at no cost.
Also I'm building a spy in Lyons. Since it's Louis' last city and our troops need to heal (well not for long thanks to our Medic Warlord Spearman) we may be able to get Aesthetics from him before France bites the dust.

And here's the save, enjoy*!

* So far, it's been Clubbing Baby Seals. Does Aggressive option actually screw the AI, since they're building units and not infrastructure..? Next game go Aggressive Emperor? Hm? Ok we're not out of the rut yet, our economy may collapse on us, but I don't see that happening.

Attachments

It seems like early aggression is key to AggAi. also, though, we haven't had to cope yet with the late-game AI PLUS tons of units. Since there are so many opponents in this game, I don't expect us to remain in the lead for long, given the AI boni.

good turns ~ way to decimate Louis. I agree that we need to focus on economy for now. Perhaps we should take peace, and let Monty finish off Louis?? In any case, once the war ends, let's make sure we keep a good army next to Monty as we might be next :D

Hopefully all will be well with you soon Beserks so i'll leave you on the roster . . . speaking of which:

Seems that I'm just going to do some builder turns to try and lift our research rate.

I guess this is my got it... let me check that the save is ok first... Check and it's ok, so I'm on for tomorrow.
