I started off the game by going through all our cities, with specialization on my mind. More on all that to follow in my next post.
Everything looked good. I just looked for growth where possible, or stagnating at the happy cap. We had some war weariness in some cities, as well as the “homeland” penalty in our new French cities, so I decide to just let any cities grow into unhappiness and figure we’ll be out of
this war soon.
I also whipped the courthouse at Orleans for 2 pop as it was unhappy.
On the IBT,
Hannibal(Carthage) declared war on Montezuma(Aztec). This’ll occupy the psycho for a bit.
790 AD
I said no to this. I checked the Tech Screen and the only other tech we can get for this tech is Aesthetics. Not worth it imo.
Yaroslavl': Archer > Forge (20 turns) I figure this’ll be a production city.
Orleans: Courthouse > Library (12 turns) Good for more science there. Orleans will work nice as a commerce city
Moscow: Courthouse > Chariot (4 turns) We need a couple of these guys to explore a whole lot more.
805 AD
Hannibal stopped by this turn and wanted us to declare on Monty. I said not yet.
835 AD
I took out two French archers this turn, one in our lands, and one just south of Tours.
Moscow: Chariot > Chariot (3 turns)
Rostov: Catapult > Hindu Temple (20 turns)
850 AD
Sitting Bull wanted to trade:
Mostly everyone had Construction, so I took it.
Our cats bombarded down the defenses at Lyons this turn. It only took 3 cats, but I decided to wait until next turn to send in all four of them before taking the city. At the time, I thought it was the last city.
860 AD
Finally, the attack a Tours went in! I lost our first cat at 32.5% odds, but all the rest had 100% odds and all withdrew. So, since I never knew you could get Accuracy with CRI, and don’t remember ever seeing before, all four of our cats had it. Is someone being funny here?
I sent in our axes first, both our spears (the general included) and then the swords, and all 7 won.
Notice the blue border up north ~ d’oh! [Will some tech savy person make me a  smiley ~ perhaps a smiley slapping his head or a homer simpson smiley ~ thanks!] I started the city on a courthouse for when it’s out of revolt. Our army would briefly pause, while the rest headed north.
870 AD
Moscow: Chariot > Forge (12 turns) For production of course.
On the
IBT:,
Louis XIV(France) and Montezuma(Aztec) have signed a peace treaty. Well, let’s just hope that he doesn’t backstab us, though he’s still at war with Hannibal.
880 AD
Monty wanted us to get in on the act with Hannibal, but I said no, of course.
On the
IBT:, one of our catapults defeated a French archer.
890 AD
Our first reconnoitering chariot send back a report. Look at that interesting stack Joao has forming ~
900 AD
At Chartres, the real, real last city, our cats have taken down the defenses, and out best Sword dies! I was torn as to what to do next as the city had many defenders. I decided to bring up the all those units that were healing back at Tours; I didn’t think we’d need them. I fortified our units there and waited for our reinforcements.
St. Petersburg: Market > Hindu Temple (10 turns) We’ll need the happy face, I think.
Rheims: Archer > Courthouse (45 turns) Odd that we had the archer there, but I won’t say we didn’t need it. It also has a 8 gpt maintenance.
910 AD
Orleans: Library > Market (38 turns) Bleh! There’s workers there now chopping some of those forests, which greatly speeded up the city.
930 AD
Again, all of our cats went in first at Chartres, and all 3 withdrew! I’m getting AI-type luck here with that!! After that, another 7 units go in, and all win!!
French Empire has been eliminated
940 AD
Monty wanted us to cancel our deals with the English. Sorry, my friend ~
Novgorod: Market > Forge (23 turns)
Marseilles: Archer > Courthouse (36 turns)
950 AD
We hit 2 million people:
I decided to take peace with Georgie, too, since there was no use for it now. We got 25 gold for it.
960 AD
Moscow: Forge > Catapult (5 turns)
990 AD
Yekaterinburg: Courthouse > Granary (90 turns)
1000 AD
Research begun: Machinery (15 Turns). This might be nice for some maces
I also decided it was time for a revolution:
I put St Petersburg onto a Wealth build since it just finished its Hindu Temple, and I can’t see anything else it needs right. Not to mention our crummy financial state.
Ah, nuts! On the
IBT:,
Hannibal(Carthage) and Montezuma(Aztec) have signed a peace treaty. I think it’s just a matter of time for us and him.
1010 AD
I decided to trade around Code of Laws:
1030 AD
I stopped here as we were finally out of revolution. We currently earning about 40gpt towards the about 1000 needed for binary research of Machinery. The next player should go until that’s in. Maybe Machinery > Paper to bulb education with the GS we’ll be getting soon? Or academy him?? Up to the group.
Also, whip courthouses this set where possible. Two cities should finish in 5 and 7 turns, respectively, and the rest could probably be whipped soon. That should be all for them for now. We’ll also need some defensive units, too, for when we take out monty soon.
I have one worker building a fort here:
With all those Portuguese units being stacked there at the border, we should start collecting a sizeable defensive stack (maybe cats, archers and HAs??) that could respond to either city there in case of a threat.
Our army sits in the north:
It could *probably* start the war by itself, without any reinforcement.
Here’s Azteca with units defending in signs:
And a possible plan of attack:
That red line with white dots represents the oh-so-ugly border we currently share with Monty. We should probably build a few units to act as a defense in Rheims in case of a counter-attack, but our army could no doubt move through those first three cities with few problems; it’s well-experienced. Our new borders would be much more defendable until we could eliminate Monty fully ~ or rather, our economy could afford to eliminate him fully. We also might get help from the rest of the world in this, too.
[more to come]
