About Forum Rules...

Spam Threads:When the poster of the thread or the threads posts are ALL spam in either letters, numbers, symbols, or smilies.

Spam Posts:When one member spams using either letters, numbers, symbols, or smilies in a unreasonable order or for no reason what-so-ever.

Hope this answers your question JEELEN. :)
From our perspective, it is a thread that doesn't promote active discussion, soliciting opinions and analysis from people. "What type of underwear do you wear?" "Coke or Pepsi?" etc.

Basically any thread where the question posed can be answered with a one (or few) -word answer.

So, all those 'who's your favorite .......' threads (the latest hype on cfc) fall under the definition SPAM?

(hint hint, those threads are really starting to bug me)

I think I remember what you're referring to - spam threads (in that case) were copycat threads, with no real discussion points but only created to mock or play up the point of the original thread, and generally they only get spam posted in them anyway. "What's your favorite ___" may certainly be a legitimate post, but probably the second and definitely the third through nth "What's your favorite ___" threads generated in a short timeframe will get locked.
As Igloodude points out, some "What's your favorite ___"-threads may certainly legitimate; when they contain a point of some relevance. Where the line between "pointless" and "with a point" lies is not specifically set, but it it usually very clear which do and which do not contain a point. The in-betweens are judged on the replies that follow.

If you post an article, and the article contains a curse word, do you get infracted for it?

It's happened in the past. If you post an article, it's your responsibility to ensure that what you're reposting is in accordance with the forum rules.

All right, thanks.

OK, this only remotely goes to Forum Rules, but what is a "necroed thread"?
A thread that hasn't been posted in for a long period (often years) that someone then posts in, bringing it back into the active threads on teh first page of the forum.

Generally frowned upon, especially when someone posts something that doesn't really add anything to the original thread.

There we go!

I think we should be a little more lenient of thread necroing. If the thread has serious discussion and the person responds seriously, substantially, and non-redundantly we should celebrate not lament.

How come? Just because it'll be flooded with OMG NECRO, or because people will be replying to posters long gone, or what?

I have to agree with Perfection on this.

Actually, nekros means "corpse". The Greek for "death" is thanatos (as in "euthanasia").

Right as usual.;)

Time for another question, albeit again very remotely related to Forum Rules: my avatar says "Images: 1", but (still) shows no image, though I've uploaded one for sure. Uncertain which Mod to address (Forum Rules make no mention of Moderator job descriptions or such), I'm posting the issue here.
