I'm starting using it, but often finds conflicting tutorials about setting up articles, paragraphs, tables and graphics.

Does any one have authoritative reference file about it?
 
If you are using Linux, documentation should have been included in your TeX distribution. On debian it's under /usr/share/doc/texlive-doc/. I personally use this wikibook as reference.

That's because there really are different ways to do these things. There can be different packages that mostly do the same thing, but work differently.

You will have to pick one of the different methods explained in the tutorials. Use whatever works best for you. If you are at an institution that frequently uses TeX, they might already have templates to use, so it would be good to stick to that.

You might also be interested in LyX, a LaTeX based document processor, that can do most of the legwork in creating LaTeX documents.
