Accurate Earth Map in development

@moopoo: sure, but do you have any ideas on how I could do that? I can only come up with sectional screenshots, or that smallish image that you get when you lose of the whole map. I gave one of those recently (page 7?8?). The only changes since then are quite a few more small (1-tile) islands, and the semipermanent (halfway between summer and permanent) ice pack. However I came up with an idea that may let me reload the map in civ4editor, despite being edited in-game, I'll try it out and let you know how it goes next post. EDIT: nevermind, it won't work because, remember, I have new terrain types in use, and it can't load something it doesn't recognize.

@Shiggs :) glad you like it. I should have the new outline posted within 2 posts.

@TheLastOne36: In the case of the Incas, that would light yellow, meaning a small interest in the land. It gives the Incan civ more to do. In the case of the Romans, that would be light green, meaning a very small interest in the land. For example, an invasion of Ireland was proposed by the Roman empire, though it did not sustain much interest. As for the Polish areas, its more to invade.

The key is to pay close attention to the reds, pinks, oranges, gold/tan, and maybe yellow, which is interesting or hardly influenced land, for example Rupert's Lands around the Hudson Bay, which despite being owned by the English, acknowledged some French influence and administration.

Also, i don't recall you posting a map of the world. Just small parts of it. May i request one? ;)
 
ok smart guys. how do you show the whole map on one piece? It is massive. Do you want any detail ?
 
it's called 10 hours of free time, a hell of a lot of screenies, and copy-paste. :)
 
superkev: Don't do this. Use you time wisely making this terrific project a reality. The teasers you post are really nice. If you have 10 hours, then use them building your map. Don't feed the dogs unless you feel sorry for us. We can wait. (no offence everybody ..)
 
@folks: I think joakim was kidding :) Can you imagine the resolution on an image like that, once shrunk a billion times to fit onto this site? And just the size of the screenshots alone neccessary to do that would be enough to fill up the rest of my hard drive, at least. And as mourndraken said, I really should be working on getting this done- I am currently behind, because these settler maps are taking a long time to do.

I did however try to make an editor-loadable version of my map by copypasting the plot text from one map to one made in atlas map generator, however, the computer can't handle copy/pasting that much text... the paste option disables once it's copied. So it looks like the best I can do is an updates teaser (small and distorted world view) like the one on page 8. All you'd see different is the ice pack; you probably wouldn't even be able to see the added islands.

@Shiggs: here is the long awaited outline. Let me know what you think. Realize that my coasts are REALLY rough and sloppy, such as Vancouver Island. But that will be really easy to fix- at least the shape of the continent is all there and nice. I made the Mississippi and St. Laurence rivers ship-ready, and I displayed their largest tributaries (Missouri, Arkansas, Ohio, Tennessee, Ottawa) for no reason in particular.

As for meeting your expected release time period, it appears I will be able to meet it. I will get at least what you asked for by that time. I do plan on using thinsoil and fertile plains artwork; obviously we don't want large cities growing in N Quebec.

And in response to "you can even cut more of Canada out..."... NEVERRRRRR!!! :) France used it extensively for its furs and hunting, as did Britain in Rupert's land. And we all love Canada.

EDIT: Oh ya, size is 117x91. I decided that what I had before was just colossally too large. I think I've managed to make the rivers look OK regardless.

I meant like posting a zoomed out version of continents/areas/cubic areas.
 
Wow, don't mean to update so soon, but here's a cleaned up version, with all major rivers and the deserts. You should most notice the cleanup on the west coast, east coast (of USA), the Algonquin region, and now the caribbean is in its final form.

For my earth map, I'll try to have some zoomed out screenshots of areas of note/recently changed areas. My only concerns with this type of screenshot were the distortion and the increased chance of a crash. These will be within a couple posts.
 
this looks even better!

the map is crucial to the whole mod, lots of things will be based off of the map, for example , I may have to customize the calendar, gamespeeds, or even certain bonuses from civics or buildings based off the maps size and fertility. It looks like you're doing a great job. :thumbsup: Also if you didn't know, bluemarble is in my mod, so it'll look really pimp :)

you don't need to do resources if you don't want to, but I'll leave it up to you. I don't want to trouble you more if your already busy with stuff.

@Shiggs: excellent :) as for resources, shouldn't be a big deal, I'm basically either using the same sources, or copying from my world map, since although the NA map is larger, they are close in size. So although your amount of resources may not be ideal, at least you'll have the basis, as well as the donated resource graphics for some of the important NA resources not included in the unmodded game. But of course I'll only work on that aspect after I finish everything else

@TheLastOne36- Cozumel is too small (in my giant atlas it doesn't even look like an island, even though I know it is from travelling). Bermuda, as long as it fits, and it should fit, will be added, thanks for pointing that out :)

Ah, *sigh* I would have done a worldview or at least continental view update, but unfortunately when I took the photos I didn't know how to remove the clouds. I've used the BlueMarble graphics scaler and should have new pics in 1-2 days. As with British, Malinese and Zulu Empires.

and as part venezuelan, i'd like to see how you've done the the mountains, with the llanos,caribean and rainforest.
 
There's a problem with catalonia. It doesn't look real! And I think that Catalonia should have, at least, one of these four resources:

- Grapes (central coastal Catalonia)
- Wheat (Ebro delta)
- Rice (Ebro delta)
- Oil (Southern coast, placed in the sea)

Pick that resource you think it's better. I'd personally add these resources in this order, but do whatever you want (I just say this in order to have a realistic Barcelona on the map). Anyways, nice job!
 
:eek: wow!!! I would Love to see Germanicus trying to be Roman Empire!!! I wish that this could be in a NES...
