Acken's Minimalistic Balance for singleplayer (and AI improvements)

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I cant find any info.

I want to play multiplayer against AI with this mod! How can I do that?

Can I use it with "JdH's Active AI Diplomacy in MP"?

You can use JDH, but it will break the DLL portion of Acken's mod. I recommend against it - there are many changes that won't function correctly. Last I talked to him, he said he was going to release the code so that it could be implemented into other mods, but I don't believe he has done so yet.

You can still play multiplayer against the AI - the AI just won't propose deals to you. They are still very aggressive and will declare war on you quite quickly, it's just up to you to propose the peace treaties and friendships and such. As much as I like JDH's mod, I think I prefer to have Acken's AI being mostly passive rather than a dumber AI being active.

I have a problem with liberating a city of Alexander(Game crashes). However I dont know, if its related to your mod, because it is during the election of the world congress leader.

But I cannot chose liberate on that save ?

Ok yeah that sounds fine without JDH.

How do I enable Acken's mod for multiplayer?
Do I just drag and drop the contents of the "Acken's Minimalistic Balance (v 5).civ5mod"
into "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization V\Assets\DLC\Expansion2" ?

I have never annexed the city, so I dont know why the save is buggy. Here is one shortly before capture, just take Argos with the tercio and press liberate. Sorry for confusion.

I use this to pack it up with all the other mods we use (quality of life stuff like Pikes to Muskets, because lancers suck, and stuff like that) and make a fake DLC like EUI is made.

It looks daunting, but it's quite easy to do, and I can make a mod pack in a couple of minutes nowadays when they get updated. Everyone needs the same mod pack, so just share via email or whatever.

Acken - your espionage changes are junk.

I've had 2 games in a row now where I've had level 1 spies sit in my capital and my second best city and had every civ in the game steal tech from me every 5-10 turns and I've been unable to stop a one of them. I'm not even sure it's possible to kill a spy anymore, you might want to look into it.

I've had this happen quote often, too. Though to be honest, it's no difference in the base game. Spies just generally blow

Thanks ive found the bug, there was a chance I did a division by 0 at one point.

You can find the fixed dll there:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/78bq7skhkgzc6vr/CvGameCore_Expansion2.dll?dl=0
just replace the old one. Your antivirus may scream alerts when downloading a dll file.

You will however also get the separate timers for great people without the change in costs which is coming for the next version.

alternatively you can just continue playing from that save without the modified file:

I use spies more than most people, I think. I constantly level them up to 3, then send them out to Coup. There's a big difference from the base game. In the base game, I can either level them up in my own capital quickly, or I can steal tech quickly. In this, I will be a few literacy % behind the leader, and can't steal tech from him in under 40-50 turns (high likelyhood I pass him before I can), and I can't stop the bottom knuckle dragging civs from stealing from me at all. This leaves me as the only player with all level 1 spies, who are essentially useless.

It seemed reasonable that you should have a reduced chance of being caught if you're far behind, but the reality is that you steal tech so fast if you're far behind that losing a spy once in awhile isn't a big deal. This is often leaving me in a situation where I might as well turn espionage off (which I consider heresy) because it offers me absolutely no benefit whatsoever.

Another thing I have a problem with, my laptop crashes quite often when playing with your mod. This is very probably because it is now already old (I really need a new one:undecide:), but maybe others are facing the same issue. If not please ignore this post.

Re: espionage.

My buddy who was #8 in literacy last night was getting stolen from left and right and couldn't kill spies. Something isn't working as intended.

I think Chum makes a very valid point.

Though the human doesn't care in the slightest about some bottom AI stealing techs from him, the problem is actually getting your spies leveled up! Without leveled spies you cannot do anything, even level 3 spies need a very long time to be able to coup.

Often times there is only 1 AI I can steal from and it takes forever.. This is not how it is supposed to be. When a steal from a level 3 Spy from the enemies capital who is far more advanced than you takes 40+ turns something is going way wrong.

Instead of giving Civs that are way behind less of a chance to get caught, how about you revert all of the changes to the spy system and simply make spies work faster?

The AI will inevitably get their Constbularies up at one point or another, I don't think spy stealing is going to become overpowered in the lategame at all.

Reducing the time it takes to steal a tech helps both, those that are way behind and those that are just behind the leader. I think it would be the easiest and most elegant change.

It also helps leveling up spies by catching enemy spies if you are the tech leader!

I really would appreciate a test version for the Specialist change. I assume it makes the Deity AI even stronger and I'm really hyped for the challenge :)

For now I think I will be playing the Dropbox version you linked earlier itt!

This is probably immensely helpful for science victories. The end of the tech tree is so
damn
slow
now. I'm still not sure what the optimal amount of academies is, but I'm pretty sure my new plan is to just plant GS's on every strategic, cows, and 2 or better bonus tile I have in my capital. I'm still of the opinion that faith bought great people could come down in price a bit to offset the fixed bulb nerf.
