Acken's Minimalistic Balance for singleplayer (and AI improvements)

I would like it much better if there is an option to adjust the aggressiveness of the AIs.

That's the point. Base game AI will let you turtle and wont ever threaten you in any way.

Turtling is impossible in this mod. You'll get steamrolled. I've still had game long friends, but they are generally not neighbors.
 
My thoughts ont he lastest release:
The rebalance of the tech tree, and the social policies, and the work on AI are all very impressive. I like them much better than the vanilla ones. But imo, the aggressiveness of the AI need to be tuned down (or adjustable). In my last game (demigod), after settling my third city at around turn 60 in my own backyard, all of my neigbours (4) deem my expansion aggressive, one denounced me, 2 declared war on me. It has been a fun challenge, but it also makes any passive diplomatic playstyle impossible.

Well that's part of the designed experience. There is a point to make that sometimes the dogpiling isn't fun but making passive playstyle impossible is by design. The mod aims at putting the player under pressure both because of war and because of runaways.

That said people are free to mod the diplomacy part of the mod. I've even made it easy by keeping the default values in comments. Won't spend the time to describe what each parameter does though :rolleyes:
 
A stealthy update was uploaded (both workshop and dropbox) with very small changes on the mapscript as well as a diminution of AI likelihood to backstab a dof through a deceptive approach. Don't really understand why in the base game a friendship makes the AI more likely to become deceptive.
 
what exactly is different about AI tech rates? i have been noticing AI who aren't running away particularly hard completely racing ahead in science, way faster than any immortal AI i've seen in the base game. is it the library slots?
 
A LOT better at making key buildings, somewhat smaller tech penalty for number of cities and the way growth bonus is applies is different. The ai has now little trouble competing in techs with the player.

All this gives the ai a natural competitive tech rate. The ai gets no direct tech rate change from the mod.

It makes RA with the AI really good now that it can have a similar bpt than the player.
 
The upgrade for hand axe is still knight :nono: :) Sad for heathhen conversion or Germany but probably not that important

BTW heroic epic gives global happiness?
 
I personally think Order is the best Ideology game in the game right now, especially with high culture output. If I go wide I almost always end up going Order.

New Kremlin is really strong, though I would much prefer a production bonus across the entire empire. Having the bonus in the capital helps with science victories and centralized production. Having a smaller bonus, but in all your cities, would help with culture victories and fit better with the idea of the Order tree I'd say.
 
I haven't really looked at Ideologies in AM because I've not played a game that got that far, but has Acken rejigged many of the policies?

I ask because in basegame there were like 3/4 good ones for each Ideology and most of the others seemed really badly designed or lazy.

I could check the changelog, but this is MY lazy way of asking :D
 
Long time mod user, first time poster here. Let me start by saying that this mod has breathed new life into Civ V for me. I really like the overall changes, and even though I disagree with a few of them, I like the overall direction that Acken has taken.

That being said, there's something that I feel is being overlooked: Stealth Bombers. I see that Acken has nerfed the other bombers, but for some reason the most overpowered of the lot has kept all of its strength. Is there any plan to address this?

I think Freedom is the best, honestly. My science victories are ~10 turns faster with freedom. Order makes a better empire, for sure - you have a very robust empire that is capable of doing just about anything, and generates a ton of everything, but for some reason it just seems less victory focused. Spaceflight engineers is just another GS to push back your next natural one, when you've already got Hubble, Culture really benefits from Broadcast tower bonus now that the AI is so culture heavy, and diplo is diplo.

I also disagree on Kremlin - in base games I've had empires where my capital wasn't the highest production city, or even 2nd highest, due to railroad bonus. Kremlin offsets this and keeps your capital going strong.
 
I actually agree Freedom has better victory times than Order does. Not only for SV, but also for CV I would say.

I still prefer Order, because most of my games are not lost because my neighbour blasts off into space before I do, but rather because I get outproduced in units/ loose all my happiness after the major tourism civ adapts a different ideology / get double DOWed because my unit score is so low.

When you have a Liberty empire of course the capital will not always be the strongest city. The point of changing Kremlin to improve every cities production is because Kremlin right now is way, way worse than both SoL and Prora and I think we can all agree on that :lol:
 
There seems to be something wrong ever since I took the mini update. I cannot load a game save directly anymore, I have to load the mod first and then the game save. Any ideas how I can fix this?

I dunno about that, Kremlin's added production really helps you catch up/spam units quite nicely. If you just want to get your score up, finishing your current tech's building's in 2 turns and then making more dudes seems like a good way to stop being DoW'd :)

I honestly like it the way it is.
 
This has always been buggy with mods, I don't really know why the update would do it particularly though.

It may be something in version 7 as I had only just started my first new game on that and then took the micro update before trying to load that game for the first time. I had thought that was the cause of the first hangup/crash, but I started a fresh game with the micro update and even that one would not load directly.
