Sure. It takes all types. Some folks might play civ for 4000 hours and still not truly be up for settler. It is more fun and a little less mean, however, to gently rib compulsive gamers than it is to poke fun at window-lickers.

see people! that's what happens when those 'happy at pwning AI at settler' show up at the forums and see people winning at highest difficulty.

The only place I've got any real enjoyment out of advanced starts is when loading up the next war mod to playout some modern or future era starts. Since most of my games rarely make it far enough to regularily load that mod, its what I do when I want to play some more realistic space race games/use incredibly cool future units.
