Afforess's Modmods

Can an installer check what Leaderheads I have and install Realistic Diplomacy files accordingly? It turned out that when I installed Zappara's leaderheads over the clean RoM, I forgot to put in RD files for these new LHs.

Better yet, XML files can load only if the leader is present. They are called dependencies. I use them a few times in my modmods. The dependency I think you should added it a <bTypeDependancy>.

Dependencies are a bit complicated to explain...

Afforess

It's part of my 1.51beta2. It's installed by default, since it doesn't technically alter gameplay. ;)

it Lives

Got it to work no fault of you just some
bizzare civ iv settings
fixed with complete reinstall to everything

thanks

Is there a way I can permanently set the Mountains, Back to Service to "off" in the custom game settings?

Yes, go to the Rise of Mankind/Assets/Modules/Afforess/Required Folder, and open up Civ4GameOptionsInfos.xml, and scroll down to the mountains option and change the default to 0.

Excellent work for the new beta :goodjob:

First I thought the AI was not using the new fixed borders, but then some 2 horse archers went and took my iron (see picture)

It also appears the AI is making better use of early units, only keeps stacks when really needs to (even less than me)

I thought I was about to loose this first game, when Revolution came to the "rescue" and my opponent got himself a new rival that I'm supporting right now :crazyeye:

@Afforess: are there any changes in the way AI uses civics? On 1.4 I was every time neck-on-neck in score on Emperor with my best rivals around 1000 BC but this time i'm about 33% behind, which was really surprising. I'm currently playing 40x48 map with 3 civs.

Edit: just noticed Mao has some Cho-Ko-Nus with 5-8 first strikes... that would explain my units getting pwned

I'm glad you are enjoying the changes. It's always a surprise when the AI pulls a inconvenient tactic that you had no idea that they could do on you, eh? The AI's civic choices have been optmizied for Fixed Borders, but other than that, no changes have been made. However, I am using a slightly newer version of Better AI than RoM 2.8, which may explain your difficulties.

Yes, they claim single spots but they don't really push the borders, even the tiles without resources like the human player does. This should be improved, still.

Btw. in the case of the screenie, a re-capture of the tile would make it workable after 1 turn, in case of pillage and then claim territory it would be out of order longer. Of course this decision depends on the over-all situation which AI can't calculate very deep, like has it the resource already, has enemy another one, if not pillaged would it be connected/connectable soon etc. I want good AI strategy so badly. If they can do it with chess, why is civ so hard? Only solution for me is to play deity... btw can someone please merge the godsmaker difficulty and the eternal speed level of Aaranda? ;-)

*ding-ding-ding* REQUEST!!!

You'd need to bring that up with Dexy, he wrote the code for Fixed Borders. I could look at it, but he'd be the on to really go to.

I think Civilization is much more difficult than chess.

I'm sure Os79 is willing to do that. I'm busy getting Military and Worker trades to work.

Is it possible to run these modmods with Zappara's leaderhead pack, or am I doing something wrong?

I got runtime errors stating the program had asked the system to termnate it in an unusual way when I did a fresh install of RoM, then installed the leaderhead pack, ran the Java applet then ran your exe.

Did the installer crash, or Civilization?

My modmods should be completely compatible with Zappara's extra leaders.

Your computer might not be able to handle all the extra leaders. Try moving a bunch of them into the unloaded modules folder, and see if you can get your game to start. Zappara's leaders require a really high end computer.

Your installer worked just fine. Civilization crashed, though not immediately. It crashed when I clicked the Single Player button, I was able to use the Civilopedia just fine.

My specs are:
XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600)
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHZ Processor
1024MB RAM
Self-adjusting pagefile (goes up to around 4 gigabytes, I believe)
NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS with Integrated RAMDAC and 512 MB total memory at 1280*1024
Graphics driver is nv4_disp.dll, version 6.14.0011.7516, English
Mini VDD is nv4_mini.sys
DDI Version 9 or higher
DirectX is 9.0c

There is no way your computer can handle all those extra leaders, with only 1GB of RAM. You'd need 3GB, Minimum, 4-8 Recommended.

I'd play with only 5-6 new civilizations from that pack, and delete the rest.

making a brilliant non-cheat needing AI has less chance then Go
I second Eternal because with these new speed ups it would only take two weeks to play a full game instead of a month

Your wish is my command.
Plus, go ahead and include it in your future version for players who are masochist :D.

For now, just extract it to Modules. It should work if you are using Afforess' Universal MLF file.

I am beginning to think that the AI can research more than one tech per turn... my current master Caesar is feeling generous in 1040 AD and offers me free Uranium  (and btw also just built Broadway)

I just finished updating your RD to Zappara's MegaCiv LH folder only.
Now, on to long and tedious task of updating it to entire LHs pack of extra civilizations :groan:.

Really? Thanks. I appreciate a ton! (I hate doing tons of XML...)
