AG12 - Space Race (Sid)

IHT: MM a bit on commerce.

IT: The Aztecs and Germans sign peace. I see an Ottoman tank generate a leader. And then see a longbow defeating the redlined tank and killing the leader.
The Germans destroy an Ottoman town on our continent! The Ottomans start SETI.

Turn 1 (1255 AD) I will build a settler to take that former Ottoman spot.

Turn 2 (1260 AD) We are rapidly losing money, but next turn we get 57 gpt back from the Vikings.

IT: We renew the peace with the Vikings and get money back. We trade WM with the Otto's.

Turn 3, 4, 5 (1265, 1270, 1275 AD) Nothing much.

IT: The Aztecs bomb a city with a Frigate. The Otto's and Germans make peace.

Turn 6 (1280 AD) I cancel the MA with the Ottomans. The Aztecs want 165 gold and 6 gpt for peace. I can't afford that (I don't want gpt in the peace deal). So I say NO.
A few cities are put on wealth.

IT: The Otto's and Aztecs sign peace.

Turn 7 (1285 AD) Borazjan founded. I hate this. I am not willing to pay gpt, but we don't have enough cash to pay the Aztecs.
I decide to renegotiate peace with Babylon and pay 25 gpt. We get 370 gold in return. That sounds like a stupid move, but now I can make peace with the Aztecs for 280 gold. Now I can lux tax from 40% to 20%. We make 139 gpt.

IT: Babylon starts SETI.

Turn 8, 9 (1290, 1295 AD) I am upgrading whenver I have the money..

Turn 10 (1300 AD) A bit too late, but I decide to buy wines and silks from Babylon for 47 gpt.

We have 39 knights, 13 horses, 21 pikes and 33 galleys. When are we going for a 2nd try? We make 127 gpt, so 1 horse to knight per turn.

Ok, I got it then.

Will try to get things ready to launch once again. I hope the Aztecs don't have infantry yet.

Question: Do we want to declare war "early?" It means we risk boats, but may keep the Aztecs occupied and/or have less troops when we do land. I don't think we want to do this until we have upgraded our horse... Maybe when we launch? [Edit: Maybe this is a bad idea - it depends on the Aztec fleet and whether it will have any effect when we land]

War Weariness will hit when we declare. This will cost us a lot. I don't think we should declare early, unless we dogpile them again.

Unfortunately, I am out of time to play which is a bummer. :(

Good Luck on this game. We are going to need it. Even if we grab the Glib, we will be so far behind in terms of buildings and rails that the win will be hard to get the win. We may even have to take out the Ottoman capitol (albeit with better units).

I'm back. I will hopefully play this tomorrow. Unfortunately, with Babylon starting SETI and the Ottomans having been in the Modern Age for some time now, we can safely say that this game is lost :(. Chances are, even if we take Tenochtitlan, we'll lose the Game to a Space Race/UN win right around that time...

I didn't have time to write a turnlog so here's a summary:
Germany, Babylonians and the Ottomans are at war with the Aztecs by their own accord. Unfortunately, the Ottomans and Babylonians are also fighting after a brief cease fire. We have 53 Knights (a few are regular), 12 Pikemen and 3 Horsemen ready to depart on our 34 ships (I canceled the production of most ships since we didn't have the units to fill them). I would delay the launching of our vessel until next turn, because we can upgrade three horsemen this turn and send only knights. I accidentally didn't upgrade last turn and we were making 130+ gpt the whole time, so the excess eventually added up to 120 gold. I would then investigate the Aztec Capital in 2 turns time (no need for upgrades) for 230+ gold to see how well it's defended.

Seti was also completed on my turn. The AI wars might actually mean the game is winnable since it can slow down the tech pace (or divert it to war technologies) considerably.

I looks like the Aztec land still isn't fully railed (far from it). Interesting. I agree with the launch plan next turn. We don't have to worry about the Ottoman culture. Babylon has more than half of it.

EDIT: We may want to investigate the capital of the Aztecs before decalring. And do we want to land west of the city (on a hill, red dot) or east (on a mountain, blue dot)? West means less defense, but takes 7 turns of the journey. But west also requires us to declare on the Aztecs sooner, leading to more turns through enemy waters. If we want to land east it may be that the mountain is occupied, forcing us to land on the grassland:

Another thing: IF we send a few empty galleys along, than these should be empty. They will be attacked first and therefore will be sunk first.

Mark1031, it would be great when you can take it now :)

Sorry, but I can't take it. my game computer is busted and I need to buy a new one. I've had 2 laptops with irreparable breaks in power supply connection in the last month  a Sony and an HP. Should be back in business in latter this week. ubid says new one has been shipped. :D
