AG8 - Let's try Sid

ZERO chance of flipping as there are no foreigners left.
The accumalted Indian culture in that city is part of the flip risk. As long as India exists cities with Indian culture are risk.

If I caught correctly this is a wonder city - that means a lot of Indian culture.

It may appear that I played a good set of turns today. I'm sure that they are good enough for deity level. But please don't spare me in the comments! I appreciate kind words, but surely there are things that strike you as odd. Please mention them. I could learn from it :)

I'm sure that we still have a tough task. We just killed the weakest civ, one that was at war with another one for ages. But...our reputation is gone and this is still a Sid game. We won the battle, but it is going to be a long war.

Having said that, there are a couple of things going great in this game:
-Only 20 turns ago Sumeria had an army that was average to ours. They can't be THAT big.
-We see what happens when two civs are at war for a long time. They cripple each other.
-We are behind in tech, but not more than a typical deity hole.
-We have a healthy and potentially strong empire.

I'm wondering what our best strategy will be as from now. It might be a good idea to start a phoney war on the other continent. We could declare on the Inca tribe and get Portugal as our allies (seafaring civ that can reach us).

On our continent I would normally say that Sumeria is a logical next choice. They probably are only a bit stronger than we are. But we share a long border with them,. Quite the opposite with the Byzantines. They may have a strong military, but must go through Sumeria to reach us. So the Byzantines look like a logical choice.

Greebley you are correct - no foreigners and no tiles owned by the civ and it can't flip to them. :)

I can check exact odds for cities later tongiht with the calc.

One thing - we have to starve all captured cities to size 1! That is of upmost importance IMO. A city with 8 foreigners is (more or less) 8 times more likely to flip than a city with 1 foreigner...

I think you can still do it. If you are size 2 you need 4 food or you starve, and the center square makes 3 food, right?

I guess it would be impossible to abandon a city to make a worker, but that is the only case I can think of where the extra food would be a problem.

Aggie, I would always rush workers where possible (i.e. when resistance is fully qelled), only actually starving if the flip chance is roughly over 2% (I do this rough calc in my head these days), or if I intend to make peace soon. There's certainly nothing worse than a flip the turn after peace...

It is also easy to get to size 1 by starving with agricultural just by not using any tiles. ;)

Sorry to interrupt. I was just wondering what the 'sid' difficulty level is? I didn't see that setting in my game. (And yes I have Conquests) :)

Brian, Sid is the difficulty that very few people can compete at. its the level above Diety. I once decided to try it out and my computer actually laughed at me and told me to stop kidding myself. It ain't for the faint hearted, as you can see from this.....

I didn't get a chance to play last night, but will try tonight.

Greebley, if you wish to play this weekend before the servers come back up, then please pm or e-mail me your address, and I will mail the file and report. My e-mail is nadilyas@hotmail.com.

Yes, please can we wait and discuss it? I like our between-turns chats very much. :)

If you REALLY want to play I have a monster map SG that takes HOURS for each turn I can send you. ;)

No problem for me. I've got Aggie and annares on MSN contacts anyway.

I'm trying to download this thread in case I need to refer to anything while I play but all it's doing is sending me to the first page. Anyone know what is wrong and how I can download the thread?

We.....COULD make use of another site for discussion... If needed... CDZ will be up (see my sig, or that of anarres). I could create a thread there and copy the contents of it to CFC once that is back on line.

Nad: I'm not familiair with these issues

I have no problems waiting either.

I wasn't planning anything more momentous than declaring war on the Byzantines though :D

More seriously, I do agree this is a game we want to discuss plans. WIth two votes for discussion, I certainly won't play. I just wasn't thinking about that.

Was there a time for the forums going down? If Nad plays tonight (European time) there will be time for me to get it and some discussion if the forum goes down at Midnight EST or PST.

I definitely do not want to rush things, I always play badly when I'm in a rush.

As it's already 7pm here and I've got some friends coming round later I doubt I'd be able to play more than half my turns, so it'll definitely be tomorrow by the time I finish and write a report, so I will post on CDZ if there's a thread there.
