AI a little on the trippy side?

I was playing a game all day today - conquest, warlord, regular map with 4 other players on pangea. So we're all really snug on the borders, always in contact, always trading .. well up until the modern times everyone was always 'polite' or 'gracious' to me, and likewise.
Then I find myself in modern times, and everyone's pissed off at me. I can't figure out why, but suddenly i'm a tricky, sneaky, evil, war mongering threat to the planet and i'm at war with civs who were friends with me probably 20-30 turns ago.
I know i'm probably doing something wrong - like I said I only play on warlord - but I can't figure it out. I hate fighting, because i'm not good at it either. I pay other people to fight for me.
Getting gold is just about my only strength. That and maybe keeping up in terms of science.
Any help or am I just experiencing imperfect AI?

Did you recently stop trading? Trading resources and luxuries really helps their attitude. That or they/you may have switched governments.

Have you read Bamspeedy's AI Attitude Exposed? You might be able to identify the specific variables causing your downgrade in 'status'.

did you break any deals? the entire world gets ticked off at me when i do that, such as declaring war when a 20-turn peace treaty is in effect.

FWIW I`ve noticed in a few Games if your Trading Luxuries with one Civ AI and your source dries up, they will either assume a angry stance or even DOW on you if your weaker then they .:(

Yup, they blame you if you no longer have the resource to trade them (even if it wasn't your fault per se). Though this is more common with strategics than luxuries - since strategics deplete and luxuries don't.

They treat it exactly as if you explicitly and deliberately broke the deal.

Bamspeedy's article is good but also if you are in a govt type that is different than theirs or if your score is much larger than theirs or if you have the possiblity of winning then the ai turns mean during that time of the game. Also, things such as controlling resources start to play a larger part since they are needed for winning via military means.

Did u use any nuclear weapons, because everyone gets pissed at you if you do that.

Hm. That makes sense. Based on the circumstances (that being conquest), I guess it would make sense that they'd get real touchy at such a time. I didn't break any treaties at the time I posted this - but I just couldn't resist and now I know it's far too late to redeem my position at all.
I do know there were some regime changes, but still, they act like they've never met me before. And god I hate that Russian figurehead. Ugliest woman i've ever seen. Better go get a mod for that.
CIVPhilzilla, in the 21st century I got tired of looking at furious leaders, so I created enough ICBM's to nuke every city on the map at least once and got some aluminum imports going (which was a HUGE deal), so I could build my Modern Armor.
I smothered England and said to hell with politics.
I guess i'll read that article. It's baffling, really, it is. If world politics were like Civ III's, there would be no world.
