How often have you seen the AI going for a science victory? I, for one, can't remember ever seeing it. Though I don't play the modern age that much. And if you did see it happening: which were the leaders?

I'd like to find out the odds and flavor value threshold of the AI going for it. Or I can then apply it to more leaders, or if it turns out the AI just hates space, I'll make the AI build the spaceship when its grand strategy is actually conquest. I'm pretty sure it will still be aggressive enough. I hate it when an AI hits the future age yet makes no attempt at space.

my best adwise is to mod the AI flavours.
the AI in civ5 is purposefully designed not to go for more then 1 victory type!
Washington will never go for any victory conditions period!

The AI cannot even keep up at the economic part on deity on a duel map when i played france! They rolled china wonderspammer.

as for the changes i recommend. Put a 10 on exspansion, growth, worker production, infrastructure, happiness buildings, culture and science. Put low values on wonders and gold. Let them only buy off city states or put them to ignore city states, except mongols as the mongols get a hefty 30% bonus vs them.

Put a 10 on all victory conditions, and a 10 on competetiveness.
Make them hostile, with low boldness, and high values on military buildings, and a 6 on melee/ranged/mounted/air/naval.
increase there willingness to spend on rushing buildings as soon as they can afford it.

and last lower gold price on lux to max 30 gold per lux trade, and disable buying of cities.

I voted no (Shh don't tell anyone) but that's because I've never seen them build the apollo Program or any space ship parts. There have been times though that I was pretty sure the A.I was going for science and took them out preemptively, so I don't know if that counts? I've seen Babylon pretty close and Darius once and Askia once as well (he was going Dom. but could have easily got Sci as well) but took all out before they could do anything (this is across several different games obviously).

I voted "yes, a few times."

When I did the OCC on an archipelago map, I ended up next to Arabia. I think they had 3 or 4 pieces of the ship built before I won the diplo victory.

I played on a large earth map once and I started in central Africa. I eliminated Rome and Greece from northern Africa early in the game so I had the whole continent to myself. Everyone in Europe and Asia was fighting. I got bored and joined in instead of going for an easy tech win myself, but Mongolia had both the Americas all to himself and built the ship without any opposition.

I have seen AIs build the Apollo program and a couple of parts many times but it is usually way too late for them to have a chance to finish it before I win. Even when they go for that condition, they rarely do it very efficiently.

I voted "Yes, a few times". It usually happens if I want to have a small empire and go for scientific or cultural victory on the higher difficulty levels. Then the AI can actually compete against you in these categories too.

I've had at least Polynesia, Persia and India going for scientific victory quite recently. If you play on difficulty levels below king, I doubt that the AIs can really compete against you in their science especially if you conquer a few civs and expand your puppet empire to become bigger than any of the AIs.

I've been beaten by China getting a Science Victory before. I was on an small continent of all tundra (HORRIBLE start), she shot up in science by RAing at every opportunity, and couldn't convince anyone else to take her on with me. It was humbling.

AI's go all the time for science victory. Just they are really bad at that, so if you want to see that you have to slow yourself down, like play OCC. This can be found out from XML files.

Even when they go for that condition, they rarely do it very efficiently.

Yes, AI do it very inefficiently, usually they at first build Manhattan project and then Apollo project. And I can research space technologies faster because I don't research technologies from diplo and military branches.

Closing in on two thousand hours now and i do remember in one of my first games that i had a space race with a civ. And a couple of times i have suspected that some of the AI made some sort of effort in that direction:)

Rome won a science victory against me, being stuck on their own small continent on the other side of the world and not in danger of being attacked from other AI.
I spent too much time defending and couldn't get there in time.
Others have tried and failed, but it does happen quite often.

Had Rome win a science victory on a standard pangaea emperor game. It was my first try at the B17 rush so i let him be, thinking he will be done when i bulb stealth. Had a shortage of aluminium so it took me longer to get the bombers up and running and half way through my conquest i get the notification he completed the SS engine.

No idea why Rome is prone for a science victory, always saw caesar as the warmongering whore that he is at early game.

i voted 'yes regularly' as i see it a lot.

The only problem is the AI doesnt do it as quick as it could , they arent as effecient as they should be at getting it done quickly once they have the techs.

I sniped a SS Booster from Bismark yesterday. It was probably build in Munich and he moved it to the Munich coast which is in the opposite direction of Berlin.

Now apart from stupid behaviors like the situation described above, in that game actually nearly all the Civs went for the spaceship. Most had the Apollo program, a few had 1 Booster done when I got the last needed tech. Catherine had 4 parts when I won (with Spaceship myself). It was on emperor difficulty and a huge map.

Pretty recently I played on prince and Darius won a science victory.

I think also in the last game that I won at least one AI was working on space stuff, but I beat them to it.

I see it often enough////this last time Alex got a science victory. In another game, I nuked the last Korean spaceship part and kept them from winning while i snagged a diplo victory.

I think you can see from the poll that it goes for it quite a lot.
