We all know redwine is good for your health, if only in moderation. Some also suggest the same to be the case with beer - like one pint a day.
But what about, say whiskey?

And if a little sick, will a small bit of alcohol make you better, a sip of whiskey for an example? Or make you worse?

In general, I'd like to know everything on how alcohol influences the health.

Oh, cognac's always good when put into milk or hot lemon wh3en you got a cold.

No. Alcohol, while not dangerous for your health by itself (it's only the volume that matters...), also holds zero health benefits.
Redwine or beer simply contain lots of other substances which are good for you; but, the very same amount of grape juice or tea containing hop would have even better effects...

Are you are trying to get solid information to persuade your doctor to prescribe free alcohol? :)

I did hear someone say that their doctor recommended Guinness to help build them up, this was many years ago though.

Have the medical people backtracked on the info that small amounts of alcohol might help prevent heart disease in people aged 50+?
That's what they said a few years ago.
And we are talking small amounts, a couple of centilitres of alcohol a day, no more.

I am not completely convinced to this fact. I think in reasonable ammounts it may have a good impact to health itself even.

No, red wine has a lot of this red colors -anthrocyane- which have a very high effect for example eleminating radical molecules- which can not simply be replaced by orange juice.

@storealex
why do you worry? As Rusians say- and at least besides Scotch and Irish they are the only authority I accept concerning boooozing- 'It is a pitty to die healthy!'
Another Russian saying:' someone who doesn't drink at all is much more dangerous than someone who drinks too much'...

So enjoy you booze and have a nice day

Whisky is the water of life

At least the original gaelic word for it has that meaning....

That ought to count for something :mischief:

*goes to fetch mug of water to add drops to his 25yo

Hey 151 is good for your health :mischief: . Nice and good for you :mischief: !!!!

I am rarely sick, when I am, I have a glass of whisky every now and then. It might not cure you, but if you're gonna be sick you can at least try to enjoy it a bit by being comfortably drunk. ;)

Alchohol has an unhealthy culture attached to it.

Unthinking people hypnotised by the synthetic 'good times' that getting sloshed will bring...Drinking in general is negative.

.......

I've found that when I catch a cold, generally getting just drunk enough to be hung over the next morning tends to squash the cold - as the hangover fades, the cold does too. I suspect it has something to do with dehydration (which as I understand it is essentially what a hangover is).

Merely anecdotal results, and I'd expect the AMA to collectively :nono: :thumbdown :shakehead  at me, but nevertheless worth trying, in my humble opinion.

I believe that there is a drink in India maybe that has whiskey in it that is suppose to heal you although there is other stuff in it and the whiskey might just drown out that other ingredants tast

I'm pretty sure that's a lie spread by the Baptists and such.

Alcohol, when consumed in moderation, is good for your health. Not just red wine, but alcohol itself, and NOT grape juice. (Well, obviously grape juice is good for you, but for different reasons.)

My greatgrandmother, grandmother, and mother were all given daily Guinness on doctor's orders, the first for anaemia and the other two for iron deficiency immediately following childbirth. I was slightly shocked to discover this, as the image of my mother downing beer in the hospital bed with me merely days old is rather disconcerting. Apparently the black stuff is a veritable health tonic, containing not only iron but other minerals and vitamins.
