What went wrong?

I think attacking the Byzantines from Persia was probably the only correct line.

@krikav and I agreed that attacking Mongolia is a mistake. I think attacking China was also a mistake. Mongolia fell behind because they didn't have land. China also didn't have land. The Byzantines had lots of land. The Byzantines were threatening to chew up Persia. Mongolia was distracting the Byzantines. I had to attack Persia next anyway to stop cultural.

Domestic management can be improved but that is like newspaper columnists asking government to "reduce waste".

@sylvanllewelyn Now... I had a HD failure recently so I lost all the saves and screenshots most likely (still working on it), but from memory what I did was to attack China with cannons+muskets. I think I was about 10 turns earlier than your strikedate though.
Took all of chinas land and then after that I proceeded to Khans land.
After that I mostly only teched along, giving Justinian massive bribes two-tree times to stop his war against Persia (Advancing justinian but keeping some semblance of balance going on.)
But then with burocracy (Hammys favourite) and Theocracy (Zaras favourite) I managed to get a diplo win rather late by farming mostly every tile
Maybe I could have done something more ambitious by striking Zara or Hammy, but justinian was abit too strong to catch up and fight from that position I found myself in.

Not at all an easy map. The starting island is OK, not spectacular, not horrid but decent. There is some resources, some rivers and an decent amount of land.
But the runaway potential for justinian was a complicating factor.

I did not have such a hard time with justy as you had, I got to gobble up China/Khan in relative peace while Justinian only had eyes for Persia.

Three cheers for ironing on with a tough map being in a rough spot. :)
Me personally, I enjoy some losses as much as victories, just got to hand it to the AI Justinian here, he did play good. ;)
