Seems some of these topics belong in another section of the forums. What does this have to do with civ4?

MOO4 would be great; I've hear a lot of negativity about MOO3 but I still love the concept - redo it!

until the SDK is realeased, or at least detailed information about it, theres no way to know if we can make our own smac/colonization 2

and i voted for each :)

In order, my preference would be MoM, Colonization, MOO, and then SMAC. There is nothing really wrong with SMAC. It just never did anything for me.

OTOH, as much as I'd like to see a MoM II, I think that Civ 4 has finally reached the point where you could do a solid MoM mod. Except for the underground stuff, the original MoM was primarily a Civ clone with some magic stuff added.

SMAC.

I enjoyed Civ 2. Then I got SMAC. Wow. Incredible game. Civ felt somewhat contrived, and still does, since many real-world situations can't happen in the civ game engine. Alpha Centauri got away from that with a fresh new setting.

I still think that it's the best civ-style game I have ever played. Better than Civ 2. Better than Civ 3. We'll see if Civ 4 can top it, but I doubt it (though at least Civ 4 is adopting a similar government system to SMAC).

I just wish that some of the factors introduced in Civ 3 were in SMAC, like culture. Alpha Centauri 2 would rock.

Used to play alot of Colonization on the amiga and later on pc. I hope they remake this classic after civ4 :cooool:

Well Id like to see a sequel to Alpha Centauri I voted for that one simply cause I have not played any of the other games so I have no idea what they are about.

I disagree. Some of the features of MoM can't be simulated even with the highly moddable Civ4: the Heroes who could lead armies and be upgraded with armor and rings, for instance, not to mention the tactical battles, which, IMO, struck just the right balance: enough detail to be fun, not so much as to get boring as in Age of Wonders.

I had to vote for all 4 of those games, because they were all great! My personal preference: MoM, then MOO, Colonization, SMAC

I feel SMAC would be redundant, though: that's the one that could be simulated by a Civ4 mod IMO, except for unimportant details like elevation.

But people don't visit other games evry much. Except for OT, this is the most active forum. And the mods havent moved it so nya :nya:

BTW, SMAC. Nuff said.

Great as they both were, I though Alpha Centauri was leagues better than either the next Sid game, Civ 3, or Reynold's next game, Rise of Nations. A unit workshop, a real non-faction threat, negotiations with faction leaders ending in their unconditional surrender, the whole sci-fi theme and coherent story of it all, it still is the greatest game of its type. But I still want civ4...

Well since Alpha Centauri and Colonization both stand a decent chance of being remade.... and MOO had its chance but failed miserable due to the worthless production cycle it went through. If only Simtex came back together to do new versions of both MoO and MoM... *sigh*

Anyway, considering this, I'm all out for Master of Magic!

What a great game that is! The spells, the heroes, land altering magic, two planes of excistance, you actually commanding armies of creatures instead of single units like most strategy games. (A group of say halfing swordsmen had 8 figures in it.) You needed the V131 patch for it to work properly, which is what probably hurt the game a lot since not everybody had easy access to patches back then, but what a game! Still play it thanks to the great Dosbox software. Its still very good!

Would be willing to pay a lot for a remake with just upgraded graphics and sound!

Colonization is beating even Civ 1 in my own book. Even though I owned every Civ game out there and also SMAC - Colonization is still the closest to my heart !

Yeah I totally agree with that.

I always thought Alpha Centauri was done as a test bed for civ 3 so they could test out new ideas and stuff before civ 3 came along (which is why i always nicked it civ 2.5)

Colonization is a great game and should be re done but only if it included enhanced gameplay like being able to play after declaring independence and setting up america properly (maybe a civ like format for each town etc, pacifying the indians instead of wiping them out etc) because the only downside was the race to declare independence and the points you got for early declaration. After that you had one even if it was in the early 1700's

I liked SMAC better than Civ 3. It had more atmosphere, with the videos every time you discovered a tech. I am glad to see they brought that back for CIV IV. :)

SMAC is easily my choice. I loved it even more than civ II or III. The style of that game more than anything surpasses anything civ has ever done. If it was remade with anywhere near the effort that was put into civ IV, I would without a doubt play as the university of planet much more than I would the americans.

I voted all but Master of Orion 4...
I mean no offense to MOO 3 fans but the game did real bad that I won't want to see another sequel.

As for the rest, I really like to see MOM 2 and Colonization 2. SMAC is still quite playable and new so I like that some years later

My 2 cents :) (No offense to MOO 3 fans really....)

My order of preference would be:

1. Colonization II
5. Master of Magic II
9. SMAC II
10. MOO IV (although I could do without it entirely)

I never really got into SMAC that much - I probably just didn't play it enough or got distracted by some other game. I also think it's the most like Civ and the least in need of a sequel since Civ can fill that gaming need.

I had to vote for Colonization because it's a game I thoroughly enjoyed and thoroughly miss and although there have been some other games that have come out since that deal with the colonial period and colonizing they've basically sucked by comparison. I rate this game as most in need of a sequel because there really isn't anything out there with the same type of gameplay.

I enjoyed Master of Magic quite a bit too. I could stand to see a sequel for it but I'd prefer to see Colonization before it.

I loved MOO2. Outside of MMORPGs it's probably my most played game of all time (although Civ3 might've surpased it by now). Didn't even try MOO3, and got into GalCiv which is an excellent game and took over my space-based 4X needs. GalCiv2 looks to be to GalCiv what Civ IV is gonna be to Civ3 - a major and excellent upgrade - and I expect it to be so freakin' good that I have no desire whatsoever for a continuation of the MOO. At this point, anything that calls itself MOO really isn't - it'd be a brand new game trying to be similar to a glorious past. I'd rather play GalCiv2, a game by a quality dev team that is building on an already great game (kinda like how MOO2 was to original MOO).
