Am I mad?

I know from the previous CIVs that I played past the end-date several times before I knew what I was doing. If you keep it up, 2050 will seem far away when you're in control of the ball. Once that happens, you'll rarely play past the cut off date. This is from my experience and it seems to work even on the higher levels. You'll get it, don't worry.

I'm a newbie here so forgive me if this has been gone over before.

I love to play the huge worlds with the most opponents I can get. I usually pick Chieftain so I know I will win eventually. I will play this one game for a month or two! Every day I'll play some, and some days I'll play for hours. I have so many cities at times and so much going on that it will take my computer several minutes to go around and get back to the start of my turn again. I also like to play until I have completely wiped out every other race and civilization. This can take me a couple of months and I have gone well over the year 3000.

Am I mad?

you can only go up to 2050 ad

Actually, you can add up to 460 extra turns in the "Game Preferences" section of PTW.

460 more turns more or less doubles the length of the game because the default is 540 turns, am I right?
No, the additional turns will take longer than average because you have more land, more cities, more workers, perhaps less diplomacy due to genocide, more ships, more planes, more everything to move around. Wow man! who ever thought of the option to add up to 460 turns must be really, really way-out-of-his-freaking-mind mad.

We all are mad in some sense so yes you are but in the totally cool video game way.
